CH SPURGEON'S SERMONS BEYOND VOLUME 63
An Authentic Supplement to the Metropolitan Tabernacle Pulpit
Charles H. Spurgeon

Publisher's Description: Here are 45 sermons which were awaiting publication in the Metropolitan Tabernacle Pulpit when it came to an abrupt end in 1917.

The 63 volumes and 3563 sermons of SpurgeonĘs New Park Street and Metropolitan Tabernacle Pulpits were a remarkable achievement, and it was only on account of the shortage of paper and metal caused by the First World War that publication ceased on 10th May 1917.

Many hundreds of sermons were ready and waiting for their weekly publication and notices in the last two sermons indicated that it was the intention to resume publication once peace had been restored. However, only twenty hitherto unpublished sermons were to appear in 1922 in a volume entitled ęAble to the uttermostĘ.

It is the purpose of this volume to bring to light the sermons which probably would have appeared in te remainder of Volume 63 and at the start of volume 64 of the Metropolitan Tabernacle Pulpit, sermons which originally appeared only in magazine format from 1877 to 1881.

C.H. SPURGEON'S FORGOTTEN EARLY SERMONS

Lovers of Spurgeon's preaching have always had a special affection for the sermons of his New Park Street years, with their youthful vibrancy and freshness, but, when compared with their more numerous Metropolitan Tabernacle successors, a far lower percentage of these actually reached publication. Of the sermons preached mostly on Sundays and Thursdays an average of roughly 105 per year are extant for the 30 years of his Metropolitan Tabernacle ministry, but an average of only about 70 per year for his 7 New Park Street years. The purpose of this volume is to reintroduce some 28 of these early gems which appeared only in The Sword and the Trowel, all but one after his death.

C.H. SPURGEON'S FORGOTTEN PRAYER MEETING SERMONS

Spurgeon's magazine, The Sword and the Trowel, provided the material for various collections of his addresses and writings compiled after his death in 1892. Among these was Only a Prayer Meeting, published in 1901 and containing forty prayer meeting addresses which appeared in the magazine up to and including that year. One other brief prayer meeting address from the 1901 volume ('Unequally yoked together - 2 Corinthians 6:14-15) was included by Eric Hayden in his compilation C. H. Spurgeon's Sermons preached on Unusual Occasions. A further twenty two such addresses appeared in The Sword and the Trowel between 1904 and 1911, seventeen of these carrying dates for specific Monday evenings from 1866 to 1868. These are reproduced in the first part of this volume, which may be regarded as a sequel to Only a Prayer Meeting, together with several other forgotten sermons to be found in The Sword and the Trowel either on prayer or from roughly the same period of Spurgeon's ministry. May God's people be encouraged to regard individual prayer and the church prayer meeting as priorities in the Christian life.

TRAVELS WITH THE MARTYRS OF MARY TUDOR
Dr.Andrew Atherstone

Bishops and labourers, the blind and lame, men and women, elderly and teenagers - none were spared the cruel vengeance of Mary Tudor in her attempt to rid her realm of all who followed the Protestant faith. Across England and into Wales are memorials to some of the more than two hundred and eighty martyrs during Mary's brief reign. Their agony in the often slow-burning fires is a heart-rending testimony of firm faith and strong conviction. Here is the story of a few of those whose weakness was turned to strength who were tortured and refused to be released - and of whom "the world was not worthy". Like each of the books in this unique series, "Travel with The Martyrs of Mary Tudor" is both a carefully researched history and a valuable travel guide. With over 150 colour photographs, drawings and maps, it will guide the traveller to many of the key locations associated with the life and ministry of these great saints. A detailed time line and recommended further reading adds to the value of the book, and makes it equally useful for the "armchair traveller".
