 | | GOSPEL WORSHIP Jeremiah Burroughs
"Worship is for God, not for us. And when we throw our hearts and souls into serving Him in it, we cannot be more blessed. He must be treated as holy by those who enter His presence. "If any book speaks prophetically to the contemporary crisis of worship in our churches, it is Burroughs' Gospel Worship. Must reading for all concerned about honoring God in worship." --R.C. Sproul.

 | | | | THE HISTORY OF THE WALDENSES J.A. Wylie
The Waldeneses hold a special place in our Christian heritage. Their defense of the faith of Jesus despite persecution and martyrdom is unique in the christian church. During the long centries of papal supremacy, they defied the crushing power of Rome and rejected its false doctines and human traditions. This stalwart people cherished and preserved the pure Word of God. Throughout this time, despite the great danger involved, Waldensian missionaries left their rocky fortresses to share portions of scripture with those searching for the light of God's Word.

 | | | | GOSPEL RECONCILIATION Christ's Trumpet of Peace to the World Jeremiah Burroughs
In this scarce treatise by Jeremiah Burroughs, he shows that there is a breach made between man and God, and that there is a way for peace to be made. Over the course of 81 chapters, Burroughs shows that reconciliation with God comes only through the work of Christ, for a finite creature who can never satisfy an infinite God.
"Oh, the blessed state of a believer, of one who has embraced the gospel: he is at peace with God! It is the glory of the Son of God to be the Prince of Peace. The fruits of the Spirit are joy and peace. The gospel is the gospel of peace. The Kingdom of God consists of righteousness and peace. The evangelical benediction is 'grace and peace.' Peace is an amiable thing; but how lovely, how amiable is peace with God!" - Burroughs

 | | | | EXPOSITION OF DANIEL Dr. Sinclair Ferguson
Dr. Sinclair Ferguson is pastor of First Presbyterian Church in Columbia, SC. He recently served as professor of Systematic Theology at Westminster Seminary in Dallas. He formerly served for many years on the Westminster Seminary faculty in Philadelphia. He also has been the minister of St. George's-Tron Church in Glasgow, Scotland. His books include The Holy Spirit, A Heart of God, and The Big Book of Questions and Answers (for children).
The design for the Preacher's Commentary gives the reader an overall outline of each book of the Bible. Following the introduction, which reveals the author's approach and salient background on the book, each chapter of the commentary provides the Scripture to be exposited. The New King James Bible has been chosen for the Preacher's Commentary because it combines with integrity the beauty of language, underlying Hebrew and Greek textual basis, and thought-flow of the 1611 King James Version, while replacing obsolete verb forms and other archaisms with their everyday contemporary counterparts for greater readability. Reverence for God is preserved in the capitalization of all pronouns referring to the Father, Son, or Holy Spirit. Readers who are more comfortable with another translation can readily find the parallel passage by means of the chapter and verse reference at the end of each passage being exposited. The paragraphs of exposition combine fresh insights to the Scripture, application, rich illustrative material, and innovative ways of utilizing the vibrant truth for his or her own life and for the challenge of communicating it with vigor and vitality.

 | | | | THE LIFE AND CAMPAIGNS OF THOMAS "STONEWALL" JACKSON Robert Lewis Dabney
Stonewall Jackson -- his very name evokes the image of the solid, immovable Confederate general whose sobriquet, earned at the Battle of 1st Manassas, no longer requires quotation marks. But no one has labeled Thomas Jonathan Jackson a "marble man," as impenetrable as the statues which commemorate his valor. His pious Christian character, service to the church, unwavering commitment to duty, affectionate role as husband and father, as well as his magnificent service to Virginia were carefully recorded by his close friend Robert Louis Dabney. Labeled by some a religious fanatic, General Jackson was simply a consistent biblical Christian who lived out his faith every day, seriously and without compromise. The battle accounts in The Life and Campaigns of Stonewall Jackson resonate with the first-hand knowledge of a man who has seen the face of battle, as Major Dabney often did as General Jackson's adjutant in the Valley Campaign. His account of military life in the field with General Jackson provides poignant insight into the character of the General as they discuss theology and military history, pray together, and gallop to the sound of the guns. Jackson's theology was supremely orthodox, being rooted in the biblical tradition of Knox, Calvin, and Edwards. In a day bereft of true heroes, Stonewall's gallant deeds and virtuous conduct still move our hearts with admiration. He shows us how a Christian soldier should live and die.

 | | | | DISCOVERING THE GOD WHO IS R.C. Sproul
"The minister gently guided my mother away from the grave to a waiting car. I moved behind them in a grim stupor. I was confused. I was hurt. I was angry. One question pierced my soul, a question destined to become an obsession for me; it would soon emerge in my life as a single holy passion. Like Ahab in mad pursuit of an albino whale, I was stricken with a maniacal desire to find out: Who are You, God? And why do You do the things you do?"
Sproul's search for ultimate truth led him to a personal encounter with the living God. In The Character of God this brilliant theologian illuminates, illustrates and inspires readers to discover for themselves the magnificence of God's character and being, His power and personality.

click for details | | THE WORKS OF THOMAS ADAMS Three Volume Hardcover Set Thomas Adams
Thomas Adams (1583-1652) was a powerful preacher, a much-quoted writer, and an influential divine. Prominent leaders in church and state, such as John Donne and the earl of Pembroke, were among his friends.
Adams sermons have been admired since their first printing; the 'placed him beyond all comparison in the van of the preachers of England, and had something to do with shaping John Bunyan. His numerous works display great learning, classical and patristic. And are unique in their abundance of stories, anecdotes, aphorisms, and puns' (Encyclopedia Britannica, 11th edition).
Alexander B. Grosart wrote of him: "Thomas Adams stands in the forefront of our great English preachers. He is not as sustained as Jeremy Taylor, nor so continuously sparkling as Thomas Fuller, but he is surpassingly eloquent and brilliant, and much more thought-laden than either."
