YOUNG PEOPLE'S PROBLEMS
Help and Hope for Today's Teenagers
J.R. Miller

"The most important of all lessons are those which teach us how to live. There come points and experiences in every young person's life when a word may give help, save from mistake, and make the way plain and clear. It is in the hope of throwing light on some of the questions which are sure to arise in young people's lives, that these chapters have been written. It is not claimed that all the 'problems' are here considered; but perhaps those eager to make life beautiful and rich will find a little help in some of these pages." -from the Author's Preface

Miller writes with a genuine love for the young as he addresses such pertinent topics as:

WHAT AM I HERE FOR?

ABOUT YOUR MOTHER

ABOUT YOUR FATHER

ABOUT YOUR FRIENDS

GETTING ALONG WITH PEOPLE

A HIGH SENSE OF HONOR

LEARNING CONTENTMENT

and 20 more brief but powerful chapters

"If any 19th century American Christian writer warrants reprinting, it is J.R. Miller! His writing style is delightfully smooth, his insights are spiritual diamonds on every page, and his pastoral applications are delivered with the skill of a well-seasoned physician of souls." - Pastor Bill Shishko, Franklin Square, NY

THE LIFE OF CHARLES HODGE
Archibald Alexander Hodge

Charles Hodge has in his Systematic Theology provided a storehouse from which succeeding generations have steadily drawn. Warring against a waning Calvinism, a rising Darwinism, and a threatening biblical criticsm, Hodge sought to reassert the biblical faith in a fashion both persuasive and impregnable. This definitive biography has the advantage of being written by a theologian who understood the issues at stake. Also, it was written by a son who understood the man.

TRAPP'S CLASSIC COMMENTARY ON THE NEW TESTAMENT
John Trapp

In his opening lecture to "Commenting & Commentaries" Charles Haddon Spurgeon wrote the following about this set of Commentaries:

"Would it be possible to eulogise too much the incomparably sententious and suggestive folios of JOHN TRAPP? Trapp will be most valuable to men of discernment, to thoughtful men, to men who only want a start in a line of thought, and are then able to run alone. Trapp excels in witty stories on the one hand, and learned allusions on the other. You will not thoroughly enjoy him unless you can turn to the original, and yet a mere dunce at classics will prize him. His writings remind me of himself: he was a pastor, hence his holy practical remarks; he was the head of a public school, and everywhere we see his profound scholarship; he was for some time amid the guns and drums of a parliamentary garrison, and he gossips and tells queer anecdotes like a man used to a soldier's life; yet withal, he comments as if he had been nothing else but a commentator all his days. Trapp is my especial companion and treasure; I can read him when I am too weary for anything else. Trapp is salt, pepper, mustard, vinegar, and all the other condiments. Put him on the table when you study, and when you have your dish ready, use him by way of spicing the whole thing. Yes, gentlemen, read Trapp certainly, and if you catch the infection of his consecrated humour, so much the better for your hearers."

"John Trapp's (1601-1669) New Testament commentary is an old Puritan classic, often reprinted, and packed with colorful paraphrases and captivating illustrations. It is soundly Reformed and always worth consulting in conjunction with other commentaries." - Joel R. Beeke, Puritan Refomred Theological Seminary, Grand Rapids, Michigan

ADDRESSES TO YOUNG MEN
Daniel Baker, the Young Man's Preacher

Dwight L. Moody wrote the Preface to this outstanding volume of addresses to Young Men which were preached by Rev. Daniel Baker (1791-1857) during his wonderful ministry in the American South. The Life of Baker was published by Banner of Truth and titled, MAKING MANY GLAD. His life and ministry were also highlighted by Douglas Kelly in his book PREACHERS WITH POWER. In the words of Moody:

"In reading two volumes of sermons by Rev. Daniel Baker of America, preached thirty years ago, I have thought no addresses could be more suitable for the present times than these. They have been a great help to me; and many who are now preaching the gospel in America bear similar testimony. Knowing particularly that he was the 'young man's preacher,' I believe his printed sermons will give a fresh impulse for work to many, and be the means of pointing the way to multitudes who are inquiring. May God, who alone can draw men unto Him, so use these words, that the writer of them, being dead, may yet speak with power to men's souls."

In the Author's Preface we read, "These discourses were designed to be on an Awakening character, and were preached (in substance) in numerous revivals, and were blessed to the hopeful conversion of many precious souls, of whom some fifty or more have become ministers of the gospel. May He who was pleased to bless these discourses when they came from the Pulpit, bless them also now coming from the Press. And to His great Name be all the praise!"

Hosted by Dr. Craig Lampe, this one-hour documentary takes you on a fascinating journey through time. Follow our film crew across Europe as we SHOW YOU all the important places of Christian history.

Learn how God's Word was originally scribed in Hebrew and Greek. Walk with Dr. Lampe among the ruins of the very first Christian Church ever built above ground, not in Israel, but in England! Discover how the Word was preserved through the 1,000 year period of the Dark and Middle Ages, when possession of scripture in any language other than Latin meant certain death at the hands of the organized church. Uncover the truth about the misunderstood books called 'Apocrypha' that were printed in every Protestant Christian's Bible until 1885.

Meet John Wycliffe, the first person to translate the Bible into English; and see his church, which is still offering Sunday services today, as it has since the 1300's. Look at the door where Martin Luther, the first person to print the Bible in German, nailed his 95 Theses, starting the Protestant Reformation. See William Tyndale's illegal printing shop, which is a book store today, and find out why Tyndale was executed for being the first person to print the scriptures in English. Find out about the 1535 first complete printed English Bible of Myles Coverdale, the 1537 Matthews Bible, and King Henry the Eighth's 1539 'Great Bible' the first legal English Bible.

Learn why the Bible of the Protestant Reformation, the 1560 English Geneva Bible, had to be printed in Switzerland due to the reign of Queen 'Bloody' Mary. See how the 1568 Bishops Bible was revised to become the 1611 King James Bible, and how the King James version slowly replaced the much more popular Geneva Bible among early American Colonists.

'The Forbidden Book' is simply the most captivating and informative video ever produced on the subject of how we got the Bible, and how God has preserved His Word for thousands of years to countless generations.

THE STORY OF ERIC LIDDELL
Olympic Champion & Christian Hero
Dave McCasland/Day of Discovery

Best known as the main character in Hollywood's 1981 release of Chariots of Fire, there is far more spiritual depth to Eric Liddell's story. This Olympic medalist from Scotland lived and died for the gospel.

In this 3-part video, host Dave McCasland traces Eric's life from the 1924 Olympics to his last years in war-torn China. You'll hear testimonies from historians, friends and family about his life as a boy, an athlete, a missionary, and a Bible teacher. But most of all, you'll hear about a man sold-out for God.

Beautifully produced, this informative documentary fills in the large gaps in the life of the man who became known at the end of the 20th century because of a popular movie called Chariots of Fire. This account will move you to tears and send you away determined to serve the Lord whom Eric Liddell loved to the very end in a prison camp in China.

This is a film to watch again and again, and one which would be very useful in the family. It tells the true story about Liddell's unwillingness to run on Sunday even though it would likely cost him any chance at a gold medal. It shows the tremendous sacrtifice that was common-place for missionaries in the middle of the 20th century.

THE EVERYDAY WORK OF THE WESTMINSTER ASSEMBLY
Samuel W. Carruthers, edited by J. Ligon Duncan

"Dr. Carruthers has brought within the compass of one volume a mass of information not readily accessible to those interested in the proceedings and works of the Assembly of Divines." - Professor John Murray

"The evident merit of this work, its unique contribution to the study of the Puritan legacy in the Reformed tradition, and the advent of the three hundred fiftieth anniversary of the gathering of the Westminster Assembly combine to make it both appropriate and worthwhile to produce a new edition of Carruther's great work. In an effort to make the volume more readable, the text was completely re-typeset, mistakes in the first edition corrected, punctuation modernized throughout, and a few minor editorial adjustments made." - Dr. J. Ligon Duncan

RICHARD FURMAN: Life and Legacy
James A. Rogers

As a traveling evangelist, advocate of religious freedom, leader of the patriot cause, Charleston minister, and pioneer educator, Richard Furman became an important figure in American religious history and a potent political force in South Carolina.

After his conversion in 1770 Furman devoted himself to Bible study and preaching. In 1774 he was ordained into the Baptist ministry. While he volunteered to fight in the American Revolution, South Carolina's leaders valued him more as a preacher. It was said that Lord Cornwallis feared Furman's prayers more than the armies of Francis Marion and Thomas Sumter.

After the revolution, as a Baptist minister in Charleston, Furman began laying the foundation for an organized program of Baptist education and missions in the South and throughout the United States. By 1814, when he was elected president of the first Triennial Convention of American Baptists, he was perhaps the most influential Baptist leader in America.

James A. Rogers was editor emeritus of the Florence, South Carolina, Morning News, a paper he served with distinction since 1939. He graduated from Furman University in 1927, and held an honorary doctorate from his alma mater as well as from Francis Marion College, the College of Charleston, and Lander College. He also published other works of regional history, including Theodosia and Other Pee Dee Sketches and Ebenezer, The Story of a Church.

SEND THE LIGHT: The Letters of Lottie Moon
Lottie Moon, edited by Keith Harper

Among Southern Baptists no name commands more respect than Charlotte Digges "Lottie" Moon. Her self-sacrificing spirit, gritty determination, and commitment to bring Christianity to China have been legendary within denominational ranks for well over a century. Indeed, many know of her work, but few know of her life.

Send the Light: Letters from Lottie Moon is a collection of letters written by the most beloved of all Southern Baptist missionaries. These letters offer a rare glimpse into the daily routine of a woman who challenged nearly every missionary preconception that Baptists cherished at the turn of the century. She faced wars, anti-American animosity, and cultural alienation with a quiet dignity and faith that inspired her fellow missionaries and eventually won the hearts of her Chinese neighbors. She urged her denomination to support their missionary enterprises with the same type of zeal that motivated her. Moreover, Lottie Moon was never bashful about chiding, even scolding them when she thought they were not doing enough to support missions.

Beyond her numerous admonitions to Southern Baptists in general and the Foreign Mission Board in particular, Moon's personal correspondence captures a sensitive, caring woman who loved children and valued education. Always one who maintained deep family roots, these letters offer an intimate look into her desire for her family members to live happy, productive lives. They also reveal a woman whose sober, common sense approach to life was tempered by a subtle, often unexpected, sense of humor. All told, Send the Light reintroduces the world to a devoted missionary who forever changed the way Southern Baptists viewed missionaries.

Keith Harper earned a Ph.D. in American History at the University of Kentucky. He currently teaches Church History and Baptist History at Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary. His previous books include Then and Now: A Compilation and Celebration of Fifty Years at Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary (co-authored with Steven A. McKinion) and The Quality of Mercy: Southern Baptists and Social Christianity, 1890-1920, which was nominated for the Francis B. Simkins Award in 1996.

PROVIDENCE HANDLED PRACTICALLY
Obadiah Segdwick

Like his Puritan colleagues, Sedgwick was a wise observer of providence. In "Providence Handled Practically," he shows how the over ruling hand of God should be considered as it comes to bear on the life of the Christian and the church. After briefly explaining the words of Matthew 10:29-31, he distinguishes between God's general and special providence. Then follows an extensive discussion of the practical use of this doctrine. The author's Thanksgiving sermon, entitled "Haman's Vanity," which was preached before the House of Commons is added as an appendix to this work. Here, Sedgwick draws a parallel between Haman's plot to decimate the Jews and a Royalist plot that was hatched in London to seize the Parliamentary leaders.

This edition has been edited for modern readers and has an introductory essay by Joel R. Beeke and Matthew Winzer. Read it, pass it along to a friend, and be comforted by the God who promises to never forsake the works of His own hands.

STONEWALL JACKSON'S VERSE
Dr. H. Rondul Rumburg

This book weaves the life of Jackson around his favorite text of Scripture which was Romans 8: 28. The greatness of Jackson as a military general cannot be understood apart from an understanding of his great faith in Christ. Why was he such a bigger-than-life kind of man? He faced the death of many loved ones, but how did he escape bitterness? What was the reason for his victorious death? This volume seeks to answer these and many more questions. Dr. M. E. Bradford contributed the Afterword, writing with his usual pungent style. Bradford deals with the religious foundation of secession in the South.

KNOWING THE HEART: Jonathan Edwards on True and False Conversion
Jonathan Edwards, edited by William C. Nichols

Rev. Thomas Adam wrote: "It is a great point of religion to know the heart. I see but a very small part of its deceit, hypocrisy, and desperate wickedness." Knowledge of the heart of man is critical to all who are involved in ministry in any way and also to the individual professor of the gospel who is willing to do what Paul commanded, "Examine yourselves, whether ye be in the faith" (2 Corinthians 13:5). Knowing the Heart: Jonathan Edwards on True and False Conversion is a book of sermons and treatises by Jonathan Edwards dealing with the depravity of the heart, the hardening of the heart, and the nature of true and false conversion. There is commentary on each one of the manuscripts by William C. Nichols explaining what we can learn about the heart and conversion from each sermon and also how to apply it in evangelism and preaching the gospel message. Only one sermon in this book has ever been published before and that was in 2002. The book will be about 435 pages in length, hardcover, with 12 previously unpublished manuscripts by Edwards containing over 20 sermons.

THE LAW OF KINDNESS
Serving with Heart and Hands
Mary Beeke

"And be ye kind to another," begins Ephesians 4:32. Christians are called to this standard, but how seriously do we take it? In "The Law of Kindness," Mary Beeke examines the idea of kindness, shows how it is developed, and gives helpful advice for putting it into action, with specific chapters addressed to wives, husbands, parents, teachers, and children. Readers will be struck by their own lack of kindness, captivated by God's kindness toward us in Jesus Christ, and motivated to cultivate more of this precious virtue.

"Mary Beeke, wife, mother, friend to many, is herself Mrs. Kindness personified. When she writes about this theme, therefore, everyone should listen. Full of wisdom, grace, story, good humor, anda substantial dose of down-to-earth heavenly realism, 'The Law of Kindness' is a unique and remarkable book. Both deeply challenging and wonderfully helpful, this book will surely be a modern classic of its kind." - Dr. Sinclair Ferguson

"Mary Beeke has given us an invaluable source of reflection upon a much needed Christian virtue - KINDNESS. In doing so, she has provided us with breathtaking examples of Christian kindness in action, interspersed with practical applications on this Christ-like fruit of the Spirit. This will prove a derservedly popular book, one that readers will return to again and again." - Dr. Derek Thomas

PRINCIPLES OF CONDUCT
John Murray with Foreword by J.I. Packer

Now back in print with a new foreword by J. I. Packer, this classic study clearly shows the organic unity and continuity of the biblical ethic. Murray addresses ethical questions relating to such topics as marriage, labor, capital punishment, truthfulness, Jesus' teaching in the Sermon on the Mount, law and grace, and the fear of God. Though the Ten Commandments furnish the core of the biblical ethic, Murray points the reader again and again to all of Scripture as the basic authority in matters of Christian conduct.

WITH HEART AND MOUTH
An Exposition of the Belgic Confession
Daniel R. Hyde

"The Belgic Confession is not a systematic theology but the historic and systematic confession of faith by the Reformed churches. With this commentary Danny Hyde has done the Reformed churches a great service by placing our confession in its historical, theological, and ecclesiastical contexts again. By reading it in the light of those contexts, he brings it to life for us in our time. Anyone wishing to understand better the Belgic Confession on its own terms and as it has been received by the Reformed churches must consult this intelligent work." - R. Scott Clark

"It has been a long time since a Belgic Confession commentary of this caliber was last published in English. Biblical, historical, and erudite, Reverend Hyde helps the Confession speak freshly to our day. 'With Heart and Mouth' will be warmly welcomed by pastors called to teach and preach the Belgic Confession." - Wes Bredenhof

APPLES OF GOLD
An Anthology of Puritan Classics
John Mason, Thomas Adams, Thomas Wilcox, Richard Sibbes, Thomas Gataker & Robert Bolton

This anthology of Puritan writings mainly represents the smaller and less well known of them. They are precious gleanings from an immense literary output. The content has been updated slightly for easier reading. The volume is comprised of bound copies of 8 reprinted booklets, some not now available individually. A second bound volume is sadly now out of print. Hence the Apples of Gold booklets listed below give an indication in brackets of which volume they belong to. Each booklet has a full color cover and also a brief biographical sketch of the author.

This Hardcover Volume of 292 pages contains the following outstanding material:

MASON'S SAYINGS - John Mason

John Mason (1646-1694) has been termed 'a light in the pulpit and a pattern out of it'. His Sayings show the emphasis of his ministry was truly evangelical. He was the first to mould and popularise the English hymn, and in 1683 published his Spiritual Songs which were highly esteemed by Isaac Watts. This reprint comprises of a collection of sayings, both devout and practical, classified under useful headings. Also included are 2 of his hymns.

EVERLASTING MERCY - Thomas Adams

Thomas Adams (1583-1652) preached this sermon from Matthew 27:51,52 and entitled it "Majesty in Misery." This sermon is taken from THE WORKS OF THOMAS ADAMS (Volume Two), and displays the gifts that have been appreciated and admired ever since they were first printed nearly 400 years ago. The preaching of Adams had a great impact upon the life and preaching of John Bunyan.

IT IS WELL - John Hill

John Hill (1711-1746) preached this sermon from the words of the woman whose son was dead, and yet said, upon being questioned about her family said, "It is well." Hill examines her response and then launches into an excellent study of Submission to the Will of God.

HONEY OUT OF THE ROCK - Thomas Willcox

Thomas Willcox (1621-1687) was a Particular Baptist pastor in Southwark, London. This tract, written before the Great Fire of London, originally appeared under the full title, A Choice Drop of Honey from the Rock Christ, or, A Short Word of Advice to all Saints and Sinners, and was recommended by William Romaine in his day. Based on Psalm 81:16, it has proved valuable over the years and has been translated. It was a force for good in Finland in the 19th Century, where it sparked off a revival under the blessing of the Holy Spirit.

DIVINE MEDITATIONS - Richard Sibbes

Richard Sibbes (1577-1635) was a gifted Puritan preacher and writer. Here you have over 50 pages of Sibbes Mediatations on themes like: Affliction Sanctified; Brotherly Love; Conformity to Christ; Conscience; Conviction of Sin; Defence & Offence; Desertion; Effectual Calling; Evidence of Grace; Faith; God; Gifts & Their Use; Good Things; Grace; Growth in Grace; Heaven; Holy Desires; The Holy Spirit; Humility; Joy; Learning & Teaching; Love Toward God; Man's Chief End; The Means of Grace; Mercy; Man by Nature; Obedience; Prayer; Sin; Temptation; Thankfulness; Watchfulness;Wisdom; The Word of God. WORTH THE PRICE OF THE BOOK!

THE CHRISTIAN ON WATCH - Thomas Gataker

Thomas Gataker (1574-1654), Rector at Rotherhithe, published a total of 48 works and contributed the notes on Isaiah - Lamentations in connection with the KJV Bible translation project. This is an abridgement of The Spiritual Watch on the subject of Mark 13:37, "And what I say unto you I say unto all, Watch."

HEART SURGERY - Robert Bolton

Robert Bolton (1572-1631) once heard the famous William Perkins preach and called him 'a barren empty fellow.' Yet later he was converted and became one of the despised Puritans himself. At age 36 he was presented with the living of Broughton in Northamptonshire, where he remained preaching and publishing the truth till the end of his life. 'Heart Surgery' is a sermon on Acts 2:37 "Now when they heard this they were pricked in their heart."

CHRIST'S PRE-EMINENCE - Tobias Crisp

Tobias Crisp (1600-1642), Rector at Brinkworth, Wiltshire was a well loved preacher of free grace. Inscribed on his pulpit in this village church can still be read 'Woe be unto me if I preach not the gospel'. It is a fitting motto for all preachers to be reminded of, and Crisp certainly acted upon it. The material in this booklet originally appeared as two sermons, and has been edited. The text is from Colossians 1:18 "that in all things he might have the pre-eminence".

By His Grace and For His Glory:
A Historical, Theological, and Practical Study
of the Doctrines of Grace in Baptist Life
Tom Nettles

Initially this book arose, published in 1986, as a response to church reactions to the January Bible Study of 1980. Since then, the issues engaged have become more visible, more widely embraced by church members, pastors, denominational servants, more controversial and ardently opposed by some, and the subject of many discussion groups in churches and a variety of denominational settings. The attention focused on the doctrines of grace is good; it is healthy to give intense thought to issues of God's holiness, His sovereignty, and His efficacious and infinitely wise design in the justification of sinners under the curse of His Law.

Revised and Expanded 20th Anniversary Edition

"Tom Nettles' book By His Grace and For His Glory is a landmark study. Bringing together the disciplines of the school, the concerns of the preacher and the heart of a Christian, Nettles effectively reminds Baptists of our own day what so many before us believed to be the gospel." - Mark Dever

"A valuable contribution both for its history of Baptist theology and for its insistence on the loss by Baptists of their Calvinist heritage as well as for its clear and candid statement of Calvinism for today." (ADRIS Newsletter)

Tom Ascol: "Fifteen years after its first appearance, Tom Nettles' book remains an important work for modern Baptists. His major historical thesis - that the doctrines of grace formed a theological consensus among Baptists in the Southern states from the mid-nineteenth century into the first quarter of the twentieth century - has not seriously been engaged, much less refuted, by detractors and others who are less than thrilled by this doctrinal heritage. This book is essential reading for anyone who wants to be honest when assessing historic Southern Baptist theology."(Pastor, Grace Baptist Church in Cape Coral, Florida; Editor, Founders Journal)

THE CHILD'S BOOK ON THE SOUL
Thomas H. Gallaudet

Thomas H. Gallaudet (1787-1851) was the Apostle to the Deaf in the United States. He devoted his life to teach the underprivileged the truths of God's Word. He wrote dozens and dozens of books using simple, straightforward language for children, young people and adults.

This is considered the most remarkable book written by this extraordinary man. The Publisher read this to his four year old grandson and he was captivated by it and learned much about his immortal soul.

Henry Barnard, the distinguished promoter of public education, said the following about the book "The Child's Book on the Soul," 'This book exhibits Mr. Gallaudet's remarkable tact in bringing the most abstract subject within the grasp of the feeblest and youngest mind.'

"These volumes exerted in their day an influence it would be difficult to estimate. Hundreds of thousands of copies were circulated - they were translated into many languages, besides being reprinted and largely sold in England. They were read as English reading books in the schools of the Foreign Missionary Societies, and through these channels made themselves felt in unexpected places, even to the palace of the King of Siam." - The Life of Thomas Hopkins Gallaudet, pp. 230-231.

MORNING THOUGHTS
Octavius Winslow

With great pleasure, we offer this edited, large-type reprint of Octavius Winslow's morning devotions, titled Morning Thoughts. These thoughts were selected by Winslow himself from his writings. Unlike other daily devotionals, such as William Jay's, these daily portions elucidate only one or two thoughts from the dayÆs text rather than providing a comprehensive view. The advantage of this approach is that the selections are deep, heart-warming, and inspirational; just what is needed to offer a Christ-centered beginning to each day. As is true of all of Winslow's writings, this volume is a gem. Representing devotional writing at its finest, it is replete with memorable statements for spiritual edification. Use this book to treasure those sacred truths of Scripture that will mold your thoughts, words, and actions of Christian living.

THE MARROW OF TRUE JUSTIFICATION
or Justification Without Works
Benjamin Keach

"The Marrow of True Justification" or Justification Without Works contains the substance of two sermons preached on Romans 4:5, wherein the nature of justification is opened as it has been formerly asserted by all sound Protestants; and the present errors against the said doctrine detected.

"Justification by faith alone, that central doctrinal feature of the Reformation, has proven to be a controversial issue down through the years. This is not surprising, since it undermines the perennial human desire to have human merit as the basis for salvation. But this doctrine is eminently biblical. Moreover, it glorifies God and puts human beings in their place in a God-centred universe.

Controversy erupted over this doctrine towards the end of the Puritan era, and it has to be admitted that Richard Baxter, such a good guide to Puritan views on ethical issues, was behind the theological errors to which Benjamin Keach ably responds in this vital work. But why reprint this work from a bygone day and old controversy? For the simple fact that theological error on this issue is not relegated to the past. As significant sectors of Evangelicalism careen towards theological disaster in our day, this issue of how a person is made right with God has again become a matter of debate and acrimonious dispute. And here Keach can help us.

So read this work! Defend with your last breath the biblical doctrine herein recommended! And glorify the God who justifies the wicked!" - Dr. Michael Haykin

"The publication of Benjamin Keach's 'The Marrow of True Justification' is a timely and welcome addition to the growing body of literature from 17th Century Particular Baptist authors. This is especially true for two reasons. On the one hand, it provides us with a helpful insight into their wonderful grasp of the gospel and its nature. They were clear in their understanding of law and grace, forgiveness, the nature of the work of Christ and everything else related to a clear proclamation of the gospel. But on the other hand, it helps us to see that modern errors and deviations from the purity of the gospel are not new. They are simply old heresies dressed in modern terms. Keach's work calls us back to the well-established path of Scripture and Reformed Theology. I pray that this work will be read far and wide and strengthen our resolve to preach Christ and his gospel in purity and simplicity. Thank you, SGCB for this reprint." - Dr. James Renihan

"There has been, and always will be, only one way of salvation for sinners who believe and that is by Christ's righteousness imputed. It is amazing that attacks on imputed righteousness continue even in our 21st century. Here in Keach we have a sterling example of how to defend this vital truth by thorough exposition. What an excellent example for us all today!" - Erroll Hulse

"Just as self-righteousness is not really righteousness, auto-justification is not a work of God's free grace. It is mankind, who "...[B]eing ignorant of Gods Righteousness, went about to establish their own Righteousness..." to justify themselves that they might boast. As for me, I'll take Keach's doctrine, and I'll take the righteousness of another as my only hope of glory." - Dr. Mike Renihan

Benjamin Keach (1640-1704): important Particular Baptist preacher, author, and ardent defender of Baptist principles, even against Richard Baxter. Often in prison and frequently in danger for preaching the Gospel, he was the first to introduce singing hymns in the worship of English congregations.

THE YOUTH'S BOOK ON NATURAL THEOLOGY
Thomas H. Gallaudet

Thomas H. Gallaudet (1787-1851) was the Apostle to the Deaf in the United States. He devoted his life to teach the underprivileged the truths of God's Word. He wrote dozens and dozens of books using simple, straightforward language for children, young people and adults.

"Natural Theology is not learned from the Bible. It is all that can be known about God, merely by examining the beings and things which he has made, without the aid of revealed Theology."

This book is written as a sequel to the Child's Book on the Soul and uses the same form of dialogues between Mrs. Stanhope and her son Robert, who is a few years older in this book than in the former.

According to Gallaudet's biographer, "This book exerted an influence in its day that would be hard to estimate. Thousands of copies were circulated. It was translated into many languages, besides being reprinted and largely sold in England. It was read as an English reading book in the schools of the Foreign Missionary Societies, and through these channels made its way into unexpected places, even reaching the eyes and heart of the King of Siam."

COMMON FAITH, COMMON CULTURE
How Christianity Defeats Paganism
Joseph M. Bianchi

"Joseph M. Bianchi has provided an inspiring aerial overview of Christianity's formative salt and light impact on world history. 'it is a culture that transforms societies by transforming people one by one.' Bianchi provides a tonic for believers disheartened by the contemporary darkness of encroaching postmodernism. Surely the gates of Hell will not prevail, for in Christ, we will triumph as more than conquerors. Well done!" -Rev. Mark Chanski, Pastor of The Reformed Baptist Church of Holland, MI, conference speaker and author of the popular book "Manly Dominion."

"Joseph Bianchi presents an historical overview of culture with one intent: To demonstrate that Christianity is superior in every way to its pagan counterpart and has a powerful effect on the same. He succeeds, because Christianity succeeds. Find comfort and challenge in this compelling treatise." - Jim Elliff, Christian Communicators Worldwide, Kansas City, Missouri

"In academic and non-academic circles the nature, influence, importance and development of culture is often discussed. Almost everyone recognizes the power that what is called culture has in the lives of individuals in both positive and negative ways. The question about what is the most productive and beneficial culture is hotly debated. In this book, Joseph M. Bianchi 'asserts with boldness that there is one overriding and superior culture in the world.' In so doing, he contrasts the pagan (unbiblical) concepts of culture with the biblical perspective. In the book, Mr. Bianchi makes the claim 'that Christianity transforms all other cultures for the good; that it has freed more people spiritually, intellectually, emotionally, and even literally, than any other movement in history.' And he not only makes this claim, he also powerfully backs it up with solid evidence that this is so. I commend this book to you and encourage you to buy it and then read it through at least twice and share it with others." -Dr. Wayne Mack, Pastor, Biblical Counselor, Conference speaker and author of "Your Family God's Way", "Strengthening Your Marriage", "Anger and Stress Management", and a host of other well known books.

Joseph M. Bianchi (M.Div., Yale University) spent many years as a journalist prior to his ordination. He has written on topics as varied as urban planning and Constitutional Law. His other books include God Chose to Save, 21st century Corinthians and My Friend Grace.

THE EPISTLES OF JOHN
Joel Beeke

No other epistle or letter in the New Testament begins more abruptly than the first Epistle of John. It has no formal salutation, no personal words of greeting, and no concluding benediction. After a brief prologue (1:1-4) the writer goes directly to what is on his heart, the message which we have heard of him and declare unto you, that God is light, and in him is no darkness at all (1:5). Second and Third John are similar in structure, style, and theme. In both letters John introduces himself as the elder. In both letters John offers commendations for good behavior and rebukes for bad conduct. And in both letters his major theme is the truth, for in both John is determined to warn believers against false teachers and to protect from errors that are infiltrating the church of God.

Dr. Joel Beeke, in his usually thorough manner, takes the reader by the hand and leads him into the wonderful material found in the pages of John's Epistles. Practical to the core, this volume will both enlighten the mind and fire the heart.

THE FIVE POINTS OF CALVINISM
Robert L. Dabney

"The most conspicuous figure and the leading theological guide of the Southern Presbyterian Church, the most prolific theological writer that Church has as yet produced, and for a period of over forty years one of the most distinguished and probably the most impressive teacher of its candidates for the ministry." - B.B. Warfield

"The best teacher of theology in the United States, if not the world. " - A.A. Hodge

"R.L. Dabney was one of the nineteenth century's greatest theologians, in fact one of the top Reformed theologians of all time. His work is invariably exegetical and precise. I am very thankful to the folk at Solid Ground Christian Books for making Dabney's 'Five

Points of Calvinism' available. The book will prove useful for the explanation and defense of these foundational doctrines of grace." Joseph A. Pipa, Jr., Ph.D. President of Greenville Presbyterian Theological Seminary.

"Dabney was a towering figure in the 19th century American theological world. His exposition of the five points of Calvinism will enrich the reader's appreciation for the doctrines of grace, the glory of the Gospel, the accomplishment of the work of Christ and the security of the believer." - Ligon Duncan

"Dabney has been described as representing a moderate Calvinism. That does not mean, however, he was a man with little or no convictions. The Five Points of Calvinism is a good introduction to Dabney in 'moderation' and a better place for the novice to be trained in basic Calvinism. Abounding with Scripture and logical argumentation, this is another 'old book' that's useful for the Church today." - Dr. C.N. Willborn

"The object of this tract is simply to enable all honest inquirers after truth to understand just what those doctrines really are which people style the peculiar "doctrines of Presbyterians," and thus to enable honest minds to answer all objections and perversions. I do not write because of any lack in our church of existing treatises well adapted to our purpose; nor because I think anyone can now add anything really new to the argument. But our pastors and missionaries think that some additional good may come from another short discussion suitable for unprofessional readers.." - from the Author

Here is a cogent defense of Calvinism by Robert Lewis Dabney against the charge of the Arminian thought that the doctrine of eternal security promotes "unholy living".

Robert Lewis Dabney (March 5, 1820 - January 3, 1898) was known as one of the greatest Southern Presbyterian theologians of the nineteenth century. During the American Civil War, Dabney first served as as a Chaplain 18th Virginia Calvary Regiment he later served as a Chief of Staff to General Stonewall Jackson.

From 1853 to 1859 he was professor of Ecclesiastical History and then served from adjunct professor of Systematic Theology from 1859 to 1869 at Union Theological Seminary, Richmond, VA. While serving as one of the first faculty members at the University of Texas in Austin, as a Professor of Mental and Moral philosophy, Dabney and R. K. Smoot, founded and maintained the Austin School of Theology (now known as Austin Presbyterian Theological Seminary).

In 1870 Dabney became the moderator of the General Assembly of the Presbyterian Church in the United States.

QUESTIONS AND ANSWERS ON THE SHORTER CATECHISM
John Brown of Haddington

"John Brown of Haddington's 'Questions and Answers on the Shorter Catechism' is one of the most remarkable and unique doctrinal books ever written. Each question of the Westminster's Shorter Catechism prompts numerous questions from the author - over 4,400 in all. The author provides remarkably succinct answers, each of which is supported by Scripture. We know of no catechetical work that packs so much Reformed doctrinal truth in such a short compass. Brown is a master at providing pungent, scripturally-based, Christ-centered, sound and experiental answers that can be understood readily by both older teenagers and adults. We have often turned to this practical work in preparing for teaching catechism class, and have found it more helpful than any other not only in its answers, but also in its questions!" - Joel Beeke

COMMENTARY ON THE EPISTLE TO THE ROMANS
A Classic Reformed Exposition
William G.T. Shedd

First published in 1879, this classic Reformed Commentary has been reprinted again and again through the years. It is an outstanding contribution to the study of the Epistle that has turned the world upside-down.

"When studying Romans, I usually reach for Shedd first. Highly valued in past generations, Shedd's careful treatment of the original text is succinct and yet richly suggestive of profitable lines of exposition. A must have for serious study of Paul's most important letter." Dr. Robert P. Martin, Pastor, Emmanuel Reformed Baptist Church, Seattle, Washington, Editor, Reformed Baptist Theological Review

"Believing that the Epistle to the Romans is 'an inspired system of theology,' Shedd sought to give particular attention to the great doctrines of original sin in chapter 5, indwelling sin in chapters 7 and 8, and election and reprobation in chapters 9, 10 and 11. The merit of Shedd's commentary is found in his fresh examination of the Greek text, combined with an appreciative interaction with the best of sixteenth- and seventeenth-century Reformed exegesis, and his abiding commitment to the traditional Reformed concept that the intended fruit of exegesis is a systematic statement of religious truth." - Rev. Sherman Isbell

FOUNDATIONS OF GRACE
Volume One
Stephen Lawson

From the lawgiver Moses to the apostle John, and from the early church fathers to modern defenders of the faith, there has marched onto the stage of human history a long line of godly men, a triumphant parade of spiritual stalwarts who have upheld the doctrines of grace. In this book, the first in the five-volume A Long Line of Godly Men series, Dr. Steven J. Lawson takes readers on a heart-stirring survey of the Scriptures to show that the Bible in its entirety teaches the doctrines of grace.

Volume 1 (Foundations of Grace) covers 1400 BC thru 100 AD, tracing the doctrines of grace throughout Scripture. This volume becomes the foundation for what comes in the future.

Foreword by: Dr. John MacArthur

Afterword by: Dr. R.C. Sproul

"As Dr. Steve Lawson's reconnaissance of this matter so clearly shows, God's sovereignty is manifest throughout sacred Scripture. . . . When you finish reading this book, I would wonder and worry if you continue to persist in denying the full measure of GodÆs sovereignty in our salvation." - Dr. R.C. Sproul.

"The doctrines of grace are often misunderstood and mischaracterized. This helpful new book explains them thoughtfully and well. May God use it for His glory and others' good." - Dr. D. James Kennedy

"Steve Lawson understands that the text of the Bible presents a consistent witness to God's sovereignty and the panoramic display of God's glory. All this is evident in his preaching ministry and in his writing ministry as well." - R. Albert Mohler, Jr.

"Steven Lawson clearly and comprehensively lays the scriptural groundwork for the doctrines of grace." - Dr. John MacArthur

"Gripped in mind and heart by the twin truths of God's total sovereignty and His amazing grace, Steve Lawson compellingly traces these themes from the beginning to the end of Scripture. . . . Foundations of Grace shows, in a multitude of ways, that the Scriptures are useful 'for teaching, reproof, correction, and training in righteousness.' - Dr. Sinclair B. Ferguson
