It is, perhaps, the greatest tribute to Jeremiah Burroughs that his contemporaries held him in such high esteem. Men of renown like Thomas Goodwin, William Greenhill and William Bridge published six volumes of his writings after his death because of their regard for his piety.
JEREMIAH BURROUGHS (1599-1646) was educated at Emmanuel College, Cambridge, "the nursery of the Puritans." He served as rector at St. Margaret's, Tivetshall, from 1631-1646, the year of his death. He served as a member of the Westminster Assembly, and was greatly beloved for his gentle spirit. His writings are numerous.
