DALE RALPH DAVIS COMMENTARIES ON THE PSALMS
Dale Ralph Davis

DALE RALPH DAVIS has a rare gift of expounding the Old Testament Scriptures in a way that you feel transported back in time. He is Minister in Residence, First Presbyterian Church, Columbia, South Carolina. Prior to that he was pastor of Woodland Presbyterian Church, Hattiesburg, Mississippi and Professor of Old Testament at Reformed Theological Seminary, Jackson, Mississippi.

PSALMS 1 - 12 -- 'The Way of the Righteous in the Muck of Life', In the opening pages of the Psalms, believers discover foundational truth for right living-and great delight-as children of God. Trusted theologian Dale Ralph Davis leads readers through a careful study of Psalms 1-12 with clear application for daily life.

PSALMS 13 - 24 -- 'Slogging Along in the Paths of Righteousness', Dale Ralph Davis plunges right into the middle of King David's hard times with a study that is resonant for our lives. King David's faith brought him through the muddy parts of life. Will we find that depression is our final response to a hard path? Will faith carry us across? Find the encouragement that Psalms 13-24 hold for the Scripture-filled life.

PSALMS 25 - 37 -- 'In the Presence of My Enemies' - The Psalms can be very helpful, but they can also be hard. Following on from The Way of the Righteous in the Muck of Life and Slogging Along the Paths of Righteousness, Dale Ralph Davis delves into Psalms 25 to 37. Using his own recognizable humor and razor–sharp observations these expositions help us to engage with the conflict in these twelve psalms.

PSALMS 38 - 51 -- 'My Exceeding Joy' Filled with the characteristic warm humour and biblical clarity that readers have come to expect, Dale Ralph Davis’ exposition of Psalms 38–51 will help readers to get to know God’s Word better. Each chapter begins with Davis’ own translation of the Psalm from the Hebrew, before delving into his exposition. Peppered with sports anecdotes and references to military history, this book follows in the same vein as The Way of the Righteous in the Muck of Life: Psalms 1–12; Slogging Along in the Paths of Righteousness: Psalms 13–24; and In the Presence of my Enemies: Psalms 25–37.

For those who enjoyed Davis’ previous works, this will not disappoint. For those who are unfamiliar with his writings, allow this book to direct your eyes to the God of the psalmist and find your exceeding joy in him.

"All of God’s Word is food for our souls and Dr. Davis is not afraid to give it to us. In ‘My Exceeding Joy’, this beloved expositor continues to show us in the Psalms how the Word is made fresh through the work and personality of an unashamed and approved workman." -- Brent Sadler (Army Chaplain, 7th Special Forces Group, Florida)

"Dale Ralph Davis belongs to the rarest tribe of commentators: clearly communicating biblical truth with simultaneous theological depth and engaging devotional impact. The genuine love for Yahweh which oozes from these pages?not overly demonstrative but irresistibly contagious?enables readers to share both that same love and the Exceeding Joy it produces." -- Mike Biggs (Senior Pastor, Christ the King Presbyterian Church, Norman, Oklahoma)

"This expository pilgrimage through the Psalms continues to delight, instruct, refresh and nourish our hearts. Above all else, Dr. Davis’s own delight in God, evident on every page, leads us to his altar and displays his love and glory in ways that make us stop and pray and praise." -- David Gibson (Minister, Trinity Church, Aberdeen)

DEREK THOMAS has said, "Dale Ralph Davis is among the finest expositors of the Old Testament alive today. His style is unique and his content infectious. A pastor at heart, his insights are always governed by an absolute loyalty to the text, a belief that the Bible was written for today as much as yesterday, and a desire to encourage his readers to fall in love with Scripture and to trust it."
