THE REMAINS OF RICHARD CECIL
Richard Cecil, with Josiah Pratt, Editor

In his Preface Josiah Pratt quotes Isaac Watts as follows: "He that has the happy talent of parlour-preaching has sometimes done more for Christ and souls in the space of a few minutes, than by the labour of many hours and days in the usual course of preaching in the pulpit." Pratt goes on to say, "On my first intercourse with Mr. Cecil, now upward of fifteen years since, when in the full vigour of his mind, I was so struck with the wisdom and originality of his remarks, that I considered it my duty to record what seemed to me most likely to be useful to others." This volume is filled with the wisdom and originality which struck Pratt from his first experience with Richard Cecil.

"Biblical succinctness, spiritual depth, practical wisdom, illustrative clarity, and pastoral sympathy characterize Cecil's pithy Remains. Would you like precise, intriguing

statement on a plethora of valuable subjects? Read and ponder this book; you'll be the more spiritually mature for doing so."- Joel R. Beeke, Puritan Reformed Theological Seminary

SAMPLES:

"DUTIES are ours: events are God's. This removes an infinite burden from the shoulders of a miserable, tempted, dying creature. On this consideration only, can he securely lay down his head and close his eyes."

"WHAT I DO, THOU KNOWEST NOT NOW; BUT THOU SHALT KNOW HEREAFTER - is the unvaried language of God, in his providence. He will have CREDIT every step. He will not assign reasons, because he will exercise faith."

"A sound head, a simple heart, and a spirit dependent on Christ, will suffice to conduct us in every variety of circumstances."
