NOW AVAILABLE TO SHIP

Published over 120 years ago in this volume by the Bishop of Liverpool in England he opened his heart to the future of his country.

"RYLE IS MAGNIFICENT! There's no other word for it, - are you brave enough to face hard-hitting truth and have God search your heart on things that matter most? Then Ryle is the man for you! Do yourself a favor - read this and think about what you read." - J.I. Packer

"I heartily endorse it, and strongly commend it to both Christian leaders and fathers, not to mention older and younger men alike." - John MacArthur, Jr.

"Thoughts for Young Men is pure spiritual gold." - Jerry Bridges

"Thoughts for Young Men abounds in reliable counsel and says - with a rare combination of seriousness and graciousness - the very things we need to hear. Young men, for whom it was written, will find it invaluable; but all Christians, men or women, young or old, can read it with lasting benefit. It deserves to be widely read and circulated, and will do spiritual good to every reader." - Sinclair Ferguson

"THOUGHTS FOR YOUNG MEN is wise, frank, warm-hearted and hard-hitting. I hope that many, many young men will study it, and that parents and teachers will also read it in order to clarify their vision of what Christian young men should be. Although written over a century ago, the message is right up-to-date." - John R.W. Stott

"Out of Ryle's dealings with many young people came one of the most important and relevant things he ever wrote, his Thoughts for Young Men. The reading of this material could well be a turning point in the lives of many today across the world." - Iain Murray

"I am happy to commend the re-publication of Thoughts for Young Men." - Leon Morris

"Dear young friends, if you value your souls you will read Ryle's 'Thoughts for Young Men.' He did not know it but he was writing more for you than for his own youth." - John Gerstner

"Thoughts is sound, profitable reading. I commend it to young men everywhere." - James Montgomery Boice

"I am very thankful for your bringing into print once again Ryle's excellent book 'Thoughts for Young Men.' May it have a wide audience of those with ears to hear." - Elisabeth Elliot

MANLY DOMINION: In a Passive-Purple-Four-Ball World!
Mark Chanski

Are you a passive-purple-four-ball?

In billiards, the four-ball is passive; it's the one that gets knocked around by the other balls. Christian man, is that you? Are you knocked around by your environment, rather than taking your God-given assignment to lead?

Are you passive when faced with difficult situations at home, church or work?

Unfortunately, the world today is filled with many passive-purple-four-ball men, who are clueless as to how to deal with their work environment, relate to their wives, raise their children, spiritually guide their families, and lead with confidence in their churches.

Mark Chanski's book is a clarion call to all Christian men to face life's challenges with Manly Dominion. It will challenge and encourage you to lead, wherever God places you, with Spirit-filled conviction. The wisdom contained herein is from the most reliable source known: GodÆs Word, the Bible. As you read, you will discover that Chanski touches on just about every subject that a man needs to consider in his life, and he does so with unequalled clarity.

No Christian man (or woman!) living in today's world should be without it.

Read carefully, and transform your life!

A SCRIPTURAL EXPOSITION OF THE BAPTIST CATECHISM
Benjamin Beddome with Introduction by Dr. James Renihan and Biographical Sketch by Dr. Michael Haykin

ORDER WITH OUR PAPERBACK CONFESSION & CATECHISM AND SAVE EVEN MORE!

"The recent reprint of The Baptist Catechism has given families and study classes a helpful tool for memorizing the great doctrines of the Christian faith. Now, a hidden jewel, Benjamin Beddome's 'A Scriptural Exposition of the Baptist Catechism,' takes its place alongside the Catechism to give much needed assistance to the same families and classes. Beddome shows how the doctrines contained in the Catechism are founded upon Scripture, and explains them for all to understand. This is indeed a wonderful instrument to make skilled craftsmen from apprentices!" - Dr. James M. Renihan

"During the early years of his ministry Benjamin Beddome (1717-1795) used Benjamin Keach's 'The Baptist Catechism' extensively, but clearly felt that the questions and answers of this catechism needed to be supplemented by further material. So he composed what was printed in 1752 as 'A Scriptural Exposition of the Baptist Catechism by Way of Question and Answer,' which basically reproduced the wording and substance of the catechism drawn up by Keach, but added various sub-questions and answers to each of the main questions.

The Scriptural Exposition proved to be quite popular. There were two editions during Beddome's lifetime, the second of which was widely used at the Bristol Baptist Academy, which was the sole British Baptist seminary for much of the eighteenth century. In the nineteenth century it was reprinted once in the British Isles and twice in the United States, the last printing being in 1849." - Dr. Michael Haykin

Benjamin Beddome was born January 23, 1717, at Henley-in-Arden, Warwickshire, England. He was the son of Baptist minister John Beddome. He was apprenticed to a surgeon in Bristol, but moved to London in 1839 and joined the Baptist church in Prescott Street. At the call of his church, he devoted himself to the work of Christian ministry, and in 1740 began to preach at Bourton-on-the-Water, Gloucestershire. For many years he was one of the most respected Baptist ministers in western England. He was also a man of some literary culture. In 1752, he wrote "Exposition of the Baptist Catechism." In 1770, Beddome received a MA degree from Providence College, Rhode Island.

It was Beddome's practice to write a hymn weekly for use after his Sunday morning sermon. Though not originally intended for publication, he allowed 13 of these to appear in the Bristol Baptist Collection of Ash & Evans (1769), and 36 in Rippon's Selections (1787). In 1817, a posthumous collection of his hymns was published, containing 830 pieces. Robert Hall wrote of Beddome's hymns:

"The man of taste will be gratified with the beauty and original turns of thought which many of them exhibit, while the experimental Christian will often perceive the most secret movements of his soul strikingly delineated, and sentiments portrayed which will find their echo in every heart."

He died September 23, 1795, at Bourton-on-the-Water, Gloucestershire, England.

"Beddome's exposition is particularlly helpful for doctrine classes in churches and can give substantial help to any leader that would want to convene such a study." - Dr. Tom Nettles

"An amazingly insightful volume, written in highly accessible and readable style. Beddome gives helpful, clear biblical exposition to the Baptist Catechism by a series of succinct questions and answers exploring each catechism question's affirmations, denials, and implications concisely and with biblical grounding. He wrote for people in his congregation, not scholars, and its intended audience is obvious in his clear, simple handling of the various headings in the Catechism. Behold here the timelessness of the Puritan approach to Scripture!

Solid Ground did a great job putting together the physical volume. The printing is crisp, dark, and clear; the font is sized to be quite legible; and the paperback itself feels well-made and sturdy.

Beddome's 'A Scriptural Exposition of the Baptist Catechism' is indeed an important piece of Baptist history; but more than that, it’s an altogether unique book which will help you understand Scripture and know God better. Warmly recommended." - customer R.T. Marsh

THE PILGRIM'S PROGRESS: The 1891 Edition with 170 Illustrations
JOHN BUNYAN

This beautiful edition of Bunyan's classic THE PILGRIM'S PROGRESS contains dozens and dozens of engravings that enhance the value of the masterpiece. This volume has been produced with the utmost care to recreate the original edition as it was. This is a project of a local church in Birmingham, Alabama and is truly a labor of love.

"I have been collecting editions of 'The Pilgrim's Progress' for 25 years and this is undoubtedly my favorite. It is a faithful reprint of an 1891 edition. The cover is a work of art. The 170 illustrations inside are beautifully done and very helpful to visualize what Bunyan has in print. This oversize book is great to gather the family around and read together. The education of a child is not complete until they have read this complete edition of Bunyan's immortal work." - Pastor Mark Liddle, Dominion Baptist Church, Birmingham, AL

JOHN BUNYAN [1628-1888] was C. H. Spurgeon's favorite author and his legendary work, THE PILGRIM'S PROGRESS, is the most popular book ever written apart from Holy Scripture. Spurgeon loved reading and re-reading this work, claiming to have read it over 100 times!many times with his wife reading it to him in afternoon relaxation and meditation. He often quoted Bunyan in his sermons declaring, "Though his writings are charmingly full of poetry, yet he cannot give us his Pilgrim's Progress, that sweetest of all prose poems, without continually making us feel and say, 'Why, this man is a living Bible!' Prick him anywhere, his blood is Bibline, the very essence of the Bible flows from him. He cannot speak without quoting a text, for his very soul is FULL of the Word of God."

"This work attempts to trace the footsteps of a great circumnavigator in the divine life, somewhat as an open boat might follow in the wake of the ships of Columbus into a new world. And yet it is not new, but as old as the grace of God in the heart of sinful man; and now, so many have crossed the sea, and prepared charts and maps of their passage for the use of others, that there is scarcely a league over which some compass has not been drawn, or into which some fathoming line has not been let down; though there is scenery still hidden, and there are depths never yet sounded, nor ever will be, inasmuch as the grace of God in the heart of man is unfathomable; and in sailing over this ocean we can often do no more than cry out with the apostle Paul, 'O the depths!' There is always much that is peculiar with every individual mind in crossing this sea; and likewise in following the traces of so experienced and wise a navigator as Bunyan every individual will find something new to remark upon; so that these lectures, though on an old subject, will not necessarily be found commonplace, or monotonous, or superfluous.

This excellent commentary on Pilgrim's Progress consists on 10 Lectures.

The first nine lectures cover Pilgrim's Progress: Part One, and the final lecture covers the journey of Christiana to the Celestial City.

These are spiritually enriching lectures that will not only help you appreciate Pilgrim's Progress, but also the Bible itself.

THE BEAUTY OF THE KING: Sermons for Children on the Riches of the Grace and the Wonders of the Love of Christ
Richard Newton

THIS IS THE RAREST OF ALL THE TITLES OF RICHARD NEWTON, "THE PRINCE OF PREACHERS TO THE YOUNG." NOW AVAILABLE.

"We sometimes see a bright jewel which has many smooth polished sides or surfaces. It is pleasant to take up such a jewel; turn it carefully over; look at its many surfaces, one after another, and notice the different views they present of the beauty shining out from that precious stone.

Now, the character and work of the Lord Jesus Christ, our Blessed Savior, may well be compared to such a jewel. There are many sides to this jewel. And there is a wonderful variety in the rays of light and loveliness, that shine out from these different sides. No two of them are exactly alike. It is an interesting and profitable study to examine this jewel carefully, and see the amazing brightness and beauty that are hid in it, and are all the time shining out from it.

The aim of the present volume is to assist the young in doing this. Their attention is here called to a few of the shining surfaces of this great Jewel. Jesus, in the riches of His grace and the wonders of His love, is the one theme of these sermons.

If the reading of them shall help any of His young friends, in their efforts to know Jesus more, to love and serve Him better, and, in so doing, to be happier and more useful, the writer will feel abundantly rewarded for his labor." - from the Author's Preface

A COMPLETE BODY OF DIVINITY: Sermons Upon the Westminster Shorter Catechism
THOMAS WATSON, with a Preface and Appendix by C.H. Spurgeon

In 1878 Charles H. Spurgeon wrote a Preface to his publication of a new revised edition of Watson's 'Body of Divinity', which he introduced with these words: "Thomas Watson's BODY OF PRACTICAL DIVINITY is one of the most precious and peerless works of the Puritans; and those best acquainted with it prize it most. Watson was one of the most concise, racy, illustrative, and suggestive of those eminent divines who made the Puritan age the Augustan period of evangelical literature. There is a happy union of sound doctrine, heart-searching experience and practical wisdom throughout all his works, and his BODY OF DIVINITY is, beyond all the rest, useful to the student and the minister."

Spurgeon later informs us that the primary purpose of the new edition of this classic work was for the benefit of the students in The Pastor's College. He then tells us that Rev. George Rogers, principal of the Pastor's College, carefully superintended the issue of this edition, and in a note written to Spurgeon said: "I know of no work with so much sermon matter within the same compass. In Howe, and Charnock, and Owen, we must often read much before we are tempted to close the book and think out a whole sermon, but Watson teaches us to make short work of it. The whole may be utilized. On this account it would be, I think, of great value to all our students who have pastorates. It is for their benefit, I suppose, you wished the reprint. All editions extant which we have seen, abound in errors and imperfections. These have been rectified, not entirely we fear, but in a degree as nearly approaching to accuracy as in a revision of another's composition could be expected. No alteration of sentiment has been made, but every shade of the author's meaning has been scrupulously retained."

"This book, first published after Watson's death in 1692, was his magnum opus and became his most famous work. Following the question and answer format of the Westminster Shorter Catechism, it offers 176 sermons on the essential teachings of Christianity. It shows the author's deep understanding of spiritual truths and his ability to make them clear to anyone. Unlike most other systematic theologies, it weds knowledge and piety together, and can be used effectively in daily devotions." - Dr. Joel Beeke

A unique feature of this edition is the inclusion of Spurgeon's APPENDIX ON BAPTISM which is placed at the end of the Watson's work. Spurgeon explained the reason for the Appendix in the closing words of his Preface: "As it would be most uncandid to suppress any part of an author's opinion, the chapter on Infant Baptism remains as it came from his pen; but our conscience could not allow us to issue it without inserting a statement of our own views as an Appendix. We trust this method will commend itself to all; we knew not what fairer and more honest course to pursue."

This is the COMPLETE Body of Divinity by Watson as it covers all the material in the Shorter Catechism. In more recent times Banner of Truth has published his work and entitled his exposition of the first 38 questions of the catechism The Body of Divinity, and then his two other sections have been published under the titles The Ten Commandments and The Lord's Prayer. This one volume contains the complete contents of all three of those volumes and puts them conveniently in one book.

THOMAS WATSON (1620-1686) graduated from Emmanuel College, Cambridge, where he was known for being a hard student. He was a man of considerable learning, a popular but judicious preacher, and eminent in the gift of prayer. He is one of the most popular of all the English Puritans and, certainly one of the most readable. While the volume republished here was his most popular work he also wrote several others that have been reprinted time and time again, such as, Heaven Taken by Storm, The Godly Man's Picture, The Beatitudes, All Things for Good and The Doctrine of Repentance.

HEROES OF THE EARLY CHURCH: Life-Changing Lessons for the Young
Richard Newton

"These graphic sketches of the 'Heroes of the Early Church' are the latest series penned by the distinguished author, whom Spurgeon fittingly called 'The Prince of Children's Preachers.' The sketches are in many respects the best work of the gifted man. As he ripened in saintship for heaven, his literary style became even more rich with the aroma of the gospel, and so more forcible, simple, and crisp, than in his earlier writings." - Edwin W. Rice, from the Preface

These helpful sketches are filled with lessons for the young and old alike on the lives of men like: Clement of Rome, Ignatius of Antioch, Polycarp of Smyrna, Justin Martyr, Tertullian of Carthage, Origin of Alexandria, Eusebius of Caesarea, Athanasius the Great, Basil the Great, Ambrose of Milan, John Chrysostom, Jerome, Augustine and others.

THE PILGRIM'S PROGRESS: Edited by George Offor, including Bunyan’s own Marginal Notes
JOHN BUNYAN

THIS IS A COMPLETE, UNABRIDGED EDITION CONTAINING THE ORIGINAL MARGINAL NOTES OF JOHN BUNYAN.

Other than the Bible, there is no book written in the English language that has been published more than “The Pilgrims Progress”, by John Bunyan. We believe there are two primary reasons for this. First, the book is thoroughly and eminently Scriptural. But secondly, and just as importantly, it is profoundly practical, being a deeply experiential and spiritual account of the realities of the true Christian call, conversion, walk, opposition, and spiritual rewards, both temporal and eternal; all applied to pilgrims of various gifts and capacities.

The main reason this particular edition of Pilgrims Progress was selected is because the original editor, George Offor, carefully reviewed all eight of Bunyan’s own editions being careful to produce a copy that adhered strictly to Bunyan’s own revisions of the text. But in addition, Offor was also careful to include Bunyan’s Marginal Notes. Bunyan himself provided these notes and insisted that they were one major key to understanding the text, the other being the illuminating work of The Spirit. We have made no changes to Offor’s/Bunyan’s text in this edition. May it be blessed to your soul as it has been to millions before you is our prayer.

Charles H. Spurgeon loved reading and re-reading this work, claiming to have read it over 100 times! Quite often his wife read it to him in the afternoon for relaxation and meditation.

George Whitefield said of this book, "It smells of the prison. It was written when the author was confined in Bedford jail. And ministers never write or preach so well as when under the cross: the Spirit of Christ and of Glory then rests upon them."

John Newton added, "Of all our author's writings, there is no one perhaps so universally and deservedly admired as his Pilgrim's Progress, in which he gives a delineation of the Christian life under the idea of a journey or a pilgrimage, from the City of Destruction to the heavenly Jerusalem. In this treatise Bunyan appears not only as a writer well instructed in the mysteries of the kingdom, but a man of real genius."

John Owen once went to hear John Bunyan preach. Charles II, hearing of it, asked the doctor why someone as thoroughly educated as he would want to hear a mere tinker preach. Owen replied, "May it please your Majesty, if I could possess the tinker's abilities to grip men's hearts, I would gladly give in exchange all my learning."

RILLS FROM THE FOUNTAIN OF LIFE: Good Words from God's Word for the Young
Richard Newton

This was the very first book written by the man who went on to become known as "The Prince of Preachers to Children." Newton explains the origin of the book in the Preface: "The following sermons have been published at the request of the teachers of the Sunday-schools of St. Peter's Church in Philadelphia. For the last two years, there has been a service for the children of this congregation, on the afternoon of the first Sunday of the month. On these occasions, the children occupy the body of the church. The usual service is performed, and a sermon preached, designed especially for the benefit of the children. It is called, 'THE CHILDREN'S CHURCH.'"

For more than 30 years Newton conducted CHILDREN'S CHURCH each month in which he preached a full length sermon prepared for the young lambs of his flock. Thousands upon thousands heard these masterful addresses, and the Lord used these messages mightily and raised up an army of faithful servants who went into pastoral ministry, the mission field, and numerous other places where the name of Christ is honored. THESE MESSAGES ARE BOTH TIMELESS AND TIMELY.

The subjects include:

THE PLEASANT WAY: on Proverbs 3:7

THE SPIDER'S EXAMPLE: on Proverbs 30:28

THE MARKS OF A BEN-ONI: on Genesis 35:18

THE CROOKED THINGS STRAIGHTENED: on Ecclesiastes 1:15

THE GREAT MAN IN GOD'S SIGHT: on Luke 1:15

THE LILY'S LESSONS: on Matthew 6:28

THE GIFT FOR GOD: on Proverbs 23:26

THE WONDERFUL LAMP: on Psalm 119:105

THE CHILD'S FORTUNE TOLD: on Proverbs 20:11

THE MILLENNIAL MENAGERIE: on Isaiah 11:6

THE BEST MERCHANDISE: on Proverbs 3:14

THE LESSONS JESUS TEACHES: on Matthew 11:29

"Every page is adapted to rivet attention, both by freshness of its matter, and the simple, yet graphic character of the illustrative anecdotes. Christian mothers will find ample material here for a dozen pleasant Sunday afternoons with their children, and teachers a store of instructive and interesting matter." -from the original publisher's advertisement

THE GIANTS AND HOW TO FIGHT THEM: Lessons for Children of All Ages
Richard Newton

"There are giants in the earth in these days; and God expects us all to engage in the work of trying to fight them. When I speak of giants now, I do not mean physical giants, but moral giants. I do not mean men with huge bodies, four or five times larger than common-sized men; but I mean great sins of different kinds, which may well be called giants. I want now to speak about five giants that we should all unite trying to fight against. One of these is a good way off from us; but the rest are very near us. Listen to me while I tell you who these giants are, and the way in which we must try to fight them."

I. The first giant I am to speak of is the GIANT HEATHENISM. This giant doesn't live here. He is found in countries where the Gospel is not known. His castles may be seen in Africa, and in India, in China, and in the islands of the sea. He is a huge giant. This giant is very strong, and very cruel. Well, what are we to do to this giant? Why, we must fight him, as David did Goliath. The Bible is the brook to which we must go. The truths which it contains are the stones that we must use.

II. The second giant I would speak of is the GIANT SELFISHNESS. The giant selfishness never sees, or hears, or does anything for anyone but himself if you find that you are getting to think more of yourself than of others, then be sure the giant is after you. We must fight this giant by self-denial.

III. The third giant I want to speak about is the GIANT COVETOUSNESS. This giant is very large in size, and very strong in limb; but he has the tiniest tittle bit of a heart you ever saw, might put it in a nutshell. The only wonder is how so huge a frame can be supported by so little a heart. But this is not all, for little as his heart is, it is hard as stone. He is ashamed of his name, and won't answer to it. He pretends that his right name is — frugality. But this is a great story. Frugality is a very different person. He is a good, true, honest fellow If you ask, How are you to fight him? I answer, by learning to give.

IV. The fourth giant of which I will speak is the GIANT ILL-TEMPER. But how are we to fight against, this giant? I answer, By trying to be like Jesus. We always think of Him as — the "gentle Jesus, meek and mild." Do you suppose that this giant ever got a single link of his chain on Jesus? No.

V. The last giant I wish to speak about is the GIANT INTEMPERANCE. He is a very ugly-looking fellow When he is in a good humor, and feels jolly, he puts on a silly face, and looks very foolish. But when he gets in a passion he is awful looking, and it makes one shudder to see him.

In addition to these Five Giants Dr. Newton also has Five addresses on the following:

THE GOOD SOLDIERS: on 2 Timothy 2:3

THE CONQUEROR'S JEWEL: on Exodus 28:19

THE WONDERFUL EYES: on Proverbs 15:3

ACKNOWLEDGING GOD: on Proverbs 3:6

REFORMATION HEROES

The Reformation did not happen instantaneously; it was something God patiently arranged over a number of years. As you read this book, you will learn how the Lord used some people to plant the seeds of church reform long before October 31, 1517, when Martin Luther published his ninety-five theses. Luther's story is well-known; we trust you will find it interesting and instructive to read about him and about forty others (John Knox, Peter Martyr Vermigli, Zacharias Ursinus, Willem Teellinck, etc.) who contributed to the Reformation - some well known and others not so - most of whom are Reformation heroes. To provide a more full picture of the many sided Reformation, chapters are also included on the Anabaptist and Counter Reformation movements. The book concludes with a brief summary of the influence of the Reformation in different areas of life.

"I hope this book will help awaken youth in America to the vital truths set forth so clearly and boldly by the historic heroes of the Reformation." - Dr. R.C. Sproul

"The authors are to be warmly commended for giving our young people fresh access to the riches of the Reformation, namely, God's saints who did such great exploits for the kingdom of the Lord Jesus Christ." - Dr. Michael Haykin

"Although my wife and I read this with our 3 children (14, 12, 8) we found it to be aptly written at a level and in a fashion that was not condescending nor lofty, and interesting for us and other adults who may be around as well. The authors "pull no punches"; and while some details are grisly, they communicate it with tact, consideration and respect.

We are all sheep for the slaughter and are poured out as drink offerings...It is good to remember those who trod before, their example and the depth of their love for our Savior; that we may be bold and ready ourselves, to go and to do as He leads." - a satisfied customer

PURITAN HEROES (brand new title in December 2018)

Who were the Puritans, and why are they important? What can we learn from them today? The Puritan movement began in England during the sixteenth century and continued all the way into the early eighteenth century. Although the Church of England was formed as a result of the Reformation, the Puritans believed it needed much more reform. Puritan Heroes is a beautifully illustrated book that gives the reader an idea of what the Puritan movement was about and offers a glimpse into the lives of more than twenty of its most well-known leaders (among them William Perkins, Richard Sibbes, Thomas Goodwin, Anne Bradstreet, and Jonathan Edwards). The book concludes with ten important lessons readers can learn from the Puritans and study questions to help them retain these fascinating stories and assist them in applying the lessons to their lives. It also features a bibliography to encourage further study in greater depth, as well as a glossary and timeline to help readers understand historical context. Written for children and young people, it will prove a suitable introduction to the Puritans for adults as well.

SEVEN GREAT BOOKS BY NANCY GUTHRIE
NANCY GUTHRIE

(1) SAINTS & SCOUNDRELS In the Story of Jesus by Nancy Guthrie

“Saints and Scoundrels in the Story of Jesus is convicting and comforting at once, reminding all true believers that God’s family is rough around the edges and held together by grace.” —Rosaria Butterfield, Former Professor of English, Syracuse University; author, The Gospel Comes with a House Key

The story of Jesus in the Gospels includes all kinds of interesting people—some who claimed to be saints but proved to be scoundrels, as well as scoundrels who were transformed into saints. In Saints and Scoundrels in the Story of Jesus, Nancy Guthrie provides a fresh look into what shaped and motivated people such as John the Baptist, Peter, the Pharisees, Zacchaeus, Judas, Caiaphas, Barabbas, Stephen, and Paul. Join her as she reintroduces us to these biblical characters, helping us to see more clearly the ways in which they reveal the generous grace of Jesus toward sinners.

(2) THE PROMISED ONE: Seeing Jesus in Genesis

After the resurrection, when Jesus used Scripture to explain who he was and why he came, where did he start? In the Old Testament. And this is where The Promised One begins to look for Christ, finding him in the people, promises, and patterns of the Old Testament scriptures.

With contagious passion and theological soundness, Bible teacher Nancy Guthrie shows how the book of Genesis points us to the person of Christ. Throughout ten weeks of guided personal study, relevant teaching, and thoughtful discussion questions, The Promised One will help you:

make new discoveries of Jesus as seen in the shadows of the Old Testament;

apply the gospel found in Genesis to issues such as shame, fear, and the desire for security and significance;

develop your longing for what is ahead when the world is once again made new.

Gain a fresh perspective on the book of Genesis, a broader understanding of Jesus as the fulfillment of Scripture, and much more, when you join with Nancy on this incredible journey to see Jesus in the Old Testament!

(3) THE LAMB OF GOD: Seeing Jesus in Exodus, Leviticus, Numbers & Deuteronomy

Jesus's declaration that Moses wrote of him frames this study of four books of the Pentateuch—Exodus, Leviticus, Numbers and Deuteronomy—as we discover the many ways that Moses spoke about Christ. Seasoned Bible teacher Nancy Guthrie shows that the Bible's story from beginning to end is the story of the Lamb—the Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world.

Over ten weeks of guided personal Bible study, relevant teaching, and group discussion, you will see the person and work of Christ:

in the person of Moses as a great deliverer, mediator, and prophet;

in the manna, the water from the rock, and the bronze serpent on the pole;

and in the priesthood, tabernacle, and sacrificial system.

Gain a fresh perspective on the story of Israel's deliverance and journey, a broader understanding of Jesus as the fulfillment of Scripture, and much more, when you join with Nancy on this incredible journey to see Jesus in the Old Testament!

(4) THE SON OF DAVID: Seeing Jesus in the Historical Books

What kind of king and what kind of kingdom are we asking for when we pray this prayer Jesus taught us to pray? A study of the Old Testament Historical Books—Joshua through Esther—enables us to see the kingdom of God not only as it once was, but also as it is now, and as it will be one day.

Over ten weeks of guided study, relevant teaching, and group discussion, seasoned Bible teacher Nancy Guthrie traces the history of the people of God from the time they entered the Promised Land through a series of failed kings, exile, and finally their return to await the true King. Readers will see Jesus as:

the greater Joshua who leads his people into rest;

the greater Boaz who has done all that is necessary to redeem;

the greater King who will sit on David’s throne forever;

the greater Restorer who is building his church from ruined stones.

Gain a fresh perspective on Israel’s history and God’s kingdom, a broader understanding of Jesus as the fulfillment of Scripture, and much more when you join with Nancy on this incredible journey to see Jesus in the Old Testament!

(5) THE WISDOM OF GOD: Seeing Jesus in the Psalms and Wisdom Books

Wouldn't you love to be wise and know the God who is Wisdom himself? This 10-week study of Job, Psalms, Proverbs, Ecclesiastes, and the Song of Solomon mines the Wisdom Literature not only for wise principles for living, but also for the wise person these books point to through their drama, poetry, proverb, and song—Jesus.

Bible teacher Nancy Guthrie provides clear commentary and contemporary application of biblical truths found in the Wisdom Books regarding:

how God guides us

how we can make sense of our suffering and our dissatisfaction in life

how to deal with our uneven emotions, our need for security, and our longing to be loved

Gain a fresh perspective on the Wisdom Literature, a broader understanding of Jesus as the fulfillment of Scripture, and much more, when you join with Guthrie on this incredible journey to see Jesus in the Old Testament!

(6) THE WORD OF THE LORD: Seeing Jesus in the Prophets

In the Old Testament, God spoke to his people through prophets—men specially called to speak God’s Word to his people. The New Testament makes it clear that such prophets, whether chastising or comforting, testified to Israel’s final redemption and ultimate hope: Jesus the Messiah.

Over ten weeks of guided personal Bible study, relevant teaching, and group discussion, Bible teacher Nancy Guthrie will help you see the person and work of Christ in:

Hosea's willingness to redeem his unfaithful bride from slavery

Isaiah's divine King and suffering Servant, who will be punished for his people

Daniel's stone, not hewn by human hands, that will crush every human kingdom

Ezekiel’s vision of a city where we will enjoy Jesus’s presence forever

THE TRUTH SET US FREE: Twenty Former Nuns Tell Their Stories of God's Amazing Grace
Edited by Richard Bennett with Mary Hertel

Vatican Council II was completed in 1965. The Roman Catholic Church appeared to have changed her position towards Biblical believers. The Council had pronounced that they were now to be seen as 'separated brethren' (although it also reaffirmed the Council of Trent, which four hundred years earlier had declared Biblical believers to be heretics). Catholics could now 'dialogue' with them, enter their churches, and go to their Bible studies.

In the more than forty years that have elapsed since then, much confusion has arisen both among Catholics and among Biblical believers as to where each stands today. This volume brings the steady light of Scripture and the clear testimonies of twenty 20th century women to bear on this murky religious confusion of our times.

These women became nuns in Roman Catholic convents as their finest means of serv-ing God. The testimonies are 'inside stories', intensely personal, wonderfully down-to-earth. They ask--and finally get the right answers to--some of the same questions that you yourself might ask.

The solid promise of Holy God in Scripture is, 'And ye shall seek Me, and find Me, when ye search for Me with all your heart.' This volume is modern testimony to that living promise.

The book will be of avid interest to -

- dedicated Roman Catholics who often do not know the realities of convent life

- lapsed Catholics who have become discouraged by the practice of a religious faith which has not answered his or her inner emptiness and confusion

- Evangelicals who are being drawn more closely into 'dialogue' with Roman Catho-lics, unaware of the inner workings of that huge, seemingly mysterious system

Richard Bennett, born in Ireland, entered the Dominican Order in 1956, finished at the Angelicum University in Rome, Italy, in 1964. He spent twenty-one years as a Roman Catholic priest in Trinidad, West Indies. He was saved by God's grace in 1986 and formally left the Roman Catholic Church and its priesthood. Presently settled in central Texas, he is director of the Berean Beacon.

Mary Hertel, born into a strong Roman Catholic family, entered the Order of the Congregation of the Sisters of St. Joseph in 1963. She left it in 1969 and was saved by God's grace in 1989.
