LIVING IN THE HOPE OF GLORY: A Dying Pastor's Farewells, A New Translation of Monod's Classic Farewell
Adolphe Monod, Translated by Constance K. Walker, Editor

A BRAND NEW SOLID GROUND EDITION HAS ARRIVED AND IT IS BEAUTIFUL!!

THE NEXT 2 PEOPLE WHO ORDER OUR MONOD SIX-PACK RECEIVE A FREE COPY OF THE BIOGRAPHY ENTITLED, 'ADOLPHE MONOD: The Voice of the Awakening' by Constance Walker (our Monod translator)

A nineteenth-century spiritual classic about living wholeheartedly for Christ, so as to have no regrets at life's end. Real, practical spiritual wisdom. Living in the Hope of Glory (originally titled Les Adieux, or Farewells) has been blessing readers for almost 150 years. It consists of a series of talks given by Adolphe Monod, a renowned pastor in the Reformed Church of France, as he suffered from terminal cancer. His family and friends met in his bedroom each Sunday during the last six months of his life to partake of the Lord's Supper and to hear his exhortations. But this is not a book about dying. It is a book about living consistently, powerfully and joyfully for the Lord, even in the midst of hard times. A week before his death Monod said, "I have a Savior! He has freely saved me through his shed blood. . . . All my righteous acts, all my works that have been praised, all my preaching . . . is in my eyes only filthy rags." A brief biography of Monod has been added to this edition to acquaint modern readers with this extraordinary man.

"Adolphe Monod was one of the greatest French preachers of the 19th century. Struck with terminal cancer, he presented from his bed a meditation on the last twenty-five Sundays of his life. This has been a French devotional classic since 1856. By virtue of Constance Walker's translation, 'though dead, yet he speaks' English." - Roger Nicole

"A monument to the grace of God through fellowship with Jesus Christ. Monod's dying testimony is instructing, enriching, and inspiring. Here, the suffering Christian will find an uplifting companion." - Rick Phillips

"It is astonishing that Monod's Les Adieux are not better known. This courageous French Reformed pastor was both passionate in his care for people and singular in his devotion to God." - William Edgar

Adolphe Monod (1802-1856) was a well known preacher and leader in the French Reformed Church. He was a pastor of various French congregations, including the prominent Reformed Church of Paris, and a professor at FRC Seminary, Montauban. His published sermons and essays have been widely circulated for over 150 years.

Constance K. Walker, editor and translator, is a Retired Senior Research Scientist at Duke University. She has published more than 50 articles in the field of physics, and has given a number of talks on science and faith.

SAINT PAUL: Changing Our World For Christ
Adolphe Monod, with New Translation by Constance K. Walker, Editor

THE NEXT 2 PEOPLE WHO ORDER OUR MONOD SIX-PACK RECEIVE A FREE COPY OF THE BIOGRAPHY ENTITLED, 'ADOLPHE MONOD: The Voice of the Awakening' by Constance Walker (our Monod translator)

"In 'Saint Paul', we discern the heart and soul behind much of Adolphe Monod's ministry. Yes, he wanted to lead his listeners and especially his own parishioners to the foot of the cross so that they would commit their lives to Christ, but that was just the beginning. He also wanted to raise up a generation of young people who would, through their faith and action, bring renewal to the church. Beyond that, even, his ultimate goal was to see the renewed church transform society and change the world. That was the need in nineteenth century France, and it is still the need today." -from the Translator's Preface

Endorsements -

"Sustained study of the life and ministry of the Apostle Paul over the past thirty years has convinced me that his work was utterly essential to the foundation of the church in the Apostolic era. And it is tremendous to have this old classic study of Paul by Adolphe Monod, the great French preacher of the nineteenth-century, lay out for us the importance of Paul's teaching and life. I am thrilled to recommend this old classic newly translated into English." - Dr. Michael A.G. Haykin, Professor of Church History and Biblical Spirituality, The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary, Louisville, Kentucky

"In this classic work entitled 'Saint Paul, Changing our World for Christ,' Adolphe Monod (1802-1856) masterfully paints a portrait of Paul with a Scripture brush showing us the apostle in the richness and fullness of his person. In this book, Monod shows himself to be a profound Pauline scholar of the highest order, setting forth the life of the great apostle as a worthy example for us learn from and follow. This insightful and challenging volume is a must read for every lover of the apostle Paul, but more importantly, every lover of Christ, whom Paul sought to imitate so closely." - Rob Ventura, Pastor, Grace Community Baptist Church, North Providence, RI; Co-author of "A Portrait of Paul"

"Imagine the world had not the Apostle Paul existed. Adolphe Monod, the spearhead of the French RTveil, asks and answers this question with pertinence. The world would be incomparably poorer. Though writing in the nineteenth century, he has brought the Apostle Paul to life for our own times, and indeed for all the ages. Contrary to popular images of Paul, this chief of the Apostles was a deeply feeling person, yet also a messenger of the Gospel whose God-given courage helped lay the foundation for the church as we know it. Once again, Constance K. Walker has faithfully translated this text in a way that loses nothing of the vividness of the original. This gem of a book is historically fascinating, theologically balanced, and a compelling inspiration for us to draw closer to the God of the Apostle Paul." - William Edgar, Professor of Apologetics, Westminster Seminary, Philadelphia, PA

"The Christian Church in the West is in desperate need of revival. No argument there. Yet what shall we do to seek the life of Christ and allow it to reanimate our lives? Why not go back to St. Paul, whose theology became his biography? Why not return to the soul-stirring preaching of one man - a man called out by the risen Christ Himself - to guide us back to robust preaching, to fearless ministry, and to expectations that God will bless His Word, anoint our lips, save souls, transform lives, and establish His Kingdom? Why not return to a classic long due for translation and distribution for the English speaking church? Constance Walker's new translation and editing of the classic Saint Paul by Adolphe Monod, a godly 19th century French divine who was influenced so powerfully by Erskine of Scotland, is exactly what we need to be reading. You will find that the nutrients of the Gospel in Monod's work on the Apostle provide instant relief from the current, Old Christendom, feckless theological contaminants. This is powerful stuff. It is the power unto salvation. My thanks to Solid Ground and to Constance Walker for lifting this up. We need it now more than ever." - Michael A. Milton, Chancellor/CEO and The James M. Baird Jr. Professor of Pastoral Theology, Reformed Theological Seminary

"Read this book! You will grow in Christ in new and different ways. You will see vividly what God's calling to you looks like. It's Constance Walker's translation and editing of Adolphe Monod's Saint Paul. Monod was 'the Voice of the [19th century French] Awakening,' and as you read you'll know why. He asks the simple but arresting question: What was it that made Paul who he was? Why was he able to accomplish so much, so deeply? Are you thinking, it must have been just the right time for the gospel? Or, he must have had an amazing gift-package? Well, you're wrong, both times. It was a terrible time for the gospel, and Paul was weak in so many ways. He said that, over and over - yet we struggle to accept it. But this book will do it for you. Then, you can look at your own calling, but not by looking at your gifts. You'll learn how the Lord delights to use you in your humanity, as he did Paul, weaknesses and all." - D. Clair Davis, Professor and Chaplain, Redeemer Seminary, Dallas, TX

When James Stalker was asked by B.B. Warfield to list, in his opinion, the most helpful books on practical religion that existed he named the following: Thomas a Kempis' 'Imitation of Christ,' Richard Baxter's 'The Reformed Pastor,' Jeremy Taylor's 'Life of Christ,' John Owen's 'Holy Spirit,' and Adolphe Monod's 'Saint Paul.'

J.H. Myers, the initial translator of this work, said the following about SAINT PAUL by Monod: "This book is unsurpassed in its department, in any language, for manly eloquence, thorough research, profound reflection, --a most earnest, glowing, and winning Christian spirit, united to an exact appreciation of the great Apostle's character and work,--and a wise and cautious, but bold and unflinching, application of his teachings to the times in which we live."

You really must read this book." - Joel Beeke

"Here, in this spiritual gem, the greatest French preacher of the nineteenth century, Adolphe Monod, probes the implications of one of the most important of Christianity's mysteries: the terrible reality of the sinless Jesus being tempted in every area of human sin or vice. Firmly rooted in biblical orthodoxy, these three meditations reveal why Jesus was so tempted, how he emerged victorious, and what his victory means for us. These meditations are spiritual food and drink to all seeking to make progress in the Christian life." - Michael Haykin

"No thoughts could penetrate so powerfully as these words about Jesus' temptations and ours. Just when you thought Monod could go no deeper, he takes you into the most inner recesses of the soul, adding comfort and hope to his searing realism about our weaknesses. In Constance Walker's translation, the author's voice is heard clearly again, bringing these messages to us in a life-transforming way." - William Edgar, Westminster Theological Seminary

"I first encountered Adolphe Monod's, 'Jesus Tempted in the Wilderness' at a time in my life when I was battling intense discouragement. Because I was preparing for full-time Christian ministry, I was reluctant, and almost embarrassed to admit my struggle, yet Monod's book proved to be just what I needed. It spoke to the heart of my inner turmoil with all the eloquence of a Christian classic. Monod showed me that all followers of Christ will, like their Master, face temptation, especially during seasons of preparation for ministry. Yet we too can have the hope of victory and can look to Christ to show us 'the means through which we can triumph.' I was so encouraged to find that, ultimately, God used my season of discouragement to build up and strengthen my faith, just as Monod had confidently and carefully assured me that He would.

"More than just a discourse instructing future ministers in how to battle temptation, 'Jesus Tempted in the Wilderness' is a book on how to live the Christian life. Adolphe Monod's careful analysis of the temptation of Christ in Scripture points us to a vibrant faith that can not only survive, but actually thrive amidst the trials and travails that God allows to be placed in our path. It is precisely for such times that Monod offers a warm and gentle reassurance as a fellow sojourner: 'No, no, children of God, your Father has not forgotten you. He is treating you as he treated his only and beloved Son. It is the narrow way through which you must pass to arrive at a more solid faith.' " - A recent college graduate preparing for Christian ministry overseas

"I read the first meditation on temptation, and my heart was strangely touched. Two thoughts came to mind (actually, a host of thoughts, but these are the two most significant thoughts): 1) I never heard anything like that when I was in training for ministry, and 2) I am not sure my students are hearing anything like that today. The first, I cannot change and perhaps it is not yet too late that I have heard these words of encouragement. The second I can correct. There are important warnings and encouragements that every seminary student needs to hear. I finished the other two chapters and found them to be even better. I recognized myself at many points, and was convicted on several points. This is good stuff. I wish I had such a man to be a close friend. Please rush this to print. My appreciation for Monod has grown over the years." - R.J. Gore, ErskineTheological Seminary and U. S. Army Reserve chaplain (Colonel).

"Monod shows that Christ is our Savior because as 'the second Adam' He fulfilled in the desert what the first Adam failed to do in a garden. This book faithfully shows that in Christ we too can have victory over Satan and that it is God's word that is our weapon against the enemy of our souls." - Paul D. Kooistra, Coordinator, Mission to the World (Presbyterian Church in America) and former president, Covenant Theological Seminary

"Adolphe Monod's seminary years and the years immediately following them were times of great spiritual struggle. Perhaps that helps explain his special fondness and burden for young men preparing themselves for gospel ministry. As a seminary professor himself, during the middle part of his career, he took the unheard-of step of inviting students into his home, thus producing strong and enduring bonds of friendship between teacher and pupils.

During those years in academia, Adolphe Monod gave three messages on temptation in the seminary chapel. As was often his custom, he took his lessons primarily from the earthly life of his Savior, in this case from Jesus tempted in the wilderness. Material that was uniquely applicable to the seminary students was removed when the messages were preached in the Paris pulpit but was reinstated when the sermons were published. It is that published form that is presented here, in a new translation. As in my earlier translations of Monod's works, I have attempted to retain his gracious, romantic style while still making the text flow naturally to a modern reader.

We will all be tempted at some point - no, at many points - and we are most likely to face severe temptation when we begin a new work for the Lord. This was Monod's conviction as he addressed his mid-19th-century students, and it is the common experience of Christians today. Adolphe Monod's burden was to warn us all, pastors and laity alike, to be on our guard. But expecting the attacks is not enough. He also wanted us to be wise in knowing how to counter them and confident of gaining a firm victory - the victory that Jesus won for us. By carefully studying how Jesus faced the devil's temptations in the wilderness, every serious and fruitful Christian will be better equipped for his own spiritual battles." - Constance K. Walker, from the Translator's Preface

LUCILE: Take & Read - A Classic Defense of Holy Scripture
Adolphe Monod, with New Translation by Constance K. Walker, Editor

"Another gripping book by Adolphe Monod, a wise, godly French Reformed pastor and theologian---this time on the inspiration of Scripture (and much more) through a fascinating dialog between a seasoned believer and an inquiring seeker. You will thoroughly enjoy reading it whether you are a believer or an inquirer." --- Joel R. Beeke, President, Puritan Reformed Theological Seminary

"Lucile was certainly a powerful apologetic at the time it was written. In June of 1842, just after it was published, Baroness de Clarac wrote to AdFle Babut, Monod's sister, the following comment: 'Since the fall, as I have been reading Mr. Adolphe Monod's book on reading the Bible, I have had the greatest desire to express my enthusiasm for its contents, and to express my gratitude for its effect on me. Never had I seen so clearly the necessity, the obligation on us to read the Bible assiduously . . . for in it I found that by conforming to its pressing injunctions, I discovered consolations and lights I had never had hitherto.' Why should this book not affect us the same way today?" - Dr. William Edgar, from the Foreword

"Lucile is a masterful work of popular apologetics told as charming personal fiction. The underlying story, however, is true. All of the characters are persons known to Monod and still alive at the time of writing. Monod initially wondered whether the format of dialog and correspondence would please his readers. Even when Lucile was complete he was doubtful of its quality, especially in the second part. To his great astonishment, it was not only one of two winning entries in the contest; it soon became immensely popular.

Stunned by the acclaim it received, he did additional editing, which was included in later editions. Lucile went through one printing after another and was translated into English plus at least seven other languages. It was still popular more than forty years later and remains a classic work." - Constance Walker, editor and translator

Lucile is an impassioned plea for every Christian to read the Bible while prayerfully relying on the Holy Spirit to interpret it and apply it in their life. While this hardly sounds radical today, in nineteenth-century France, with its large Roman Catholic majority, it was decidedly radical. Yet even today, how many of us, Protestant or Catholic, truly read our Bibles with the eagerness, prayer, and delight that it merits? How many of us treat it with appropriate awe and respect.?

Lucile, ou la Lecture de la Bible was written in 1841 for a contest sponsored by the Religious Book Society of Toulouse. The first part of each entry was to be a brief defense of Scripture's authority as the Word of God. The second part was to argue for the right—indeed, the responsibility—of all believers to read the Bible for themselves. Lucile is a masterful work of popular apologetics conveyed through charming personal fiction. The underlying story, however, is true. All of the characters are persons known to Monod and still alive at the time of writing. Monod initially wondered whether the format of dialog and correspondence would please his readers. Even when Lucile was complete he was doubtful of its quality, especially in the second part. To his great astonishment, it was not only one of two winning entries in the contest, it soon became immensely popular. Stunned by the acclaim it received, he did additional editing, which was included in later editions.

This is Monod's most unusual work, and it has become a classic in the apologetics of Scripture. It went through one printing after another in France and Switzerland and was translated into at least eight languages, retaining its popularity for decades. It has much to say today for anyone wanting to be more firmly convinced of the Bible's authenticity as divine revelation. Beyond that, it gives its readers a fresh glimpse of the riches contained in God's Word when it is read in prayerful, humble reliance on the Holy Spirit to illumine its pages so that its message penetrates hearts and changes lives.

Adolphe Monod (1802-1856) was from a Swiss family prominent in the French Reformed Church. Though descended from protestant ministers, he struggled for many years before coming to a personal faith in Jesus Christ. After entering the ministry, he joined the pastoral staff of the Reformed Church in Lyon, where his strong gospel-centered preaching soon drew opposition and led to his dismissal. Staying on in Lyon, he founded an independent evangelical congregation that grew rapidly. He then spent a decade teaching at the national church's seminary in Montauban and another decade as a pastor in the Reformed Church in Paris. The vibrant clarity and warmth of his preaching made him a leader in the evangelical church of his day, with his sermons and books widely published during his lifetime.

Those facts, however, fail to capture the spirit of the man. His was a strong and passionate faith, in part because of his early spiritual struggles. He was also a man of deep integrity, a keen mind, and a caring, pastoral heart. All of these qualities were augmented and set off by his natural gift for speaking. Yet even as his renown grew, Adolphe Monod remained a truly humble man. A week before his death he said, "I have a Savior! He has freely saved me through his shed blood, and I want it to be known that I lean uniquely on that poured out blood. All my righteous acts, all my works which have been praised, all my preaching that has been appreciated and sought after—all that is in my eyes only filthy rags."

WOMAN: Her Mission and Her Life with New Section: Four Monod Women
Adolphe Monod, a New Translation by Constance K. Walker, Editor

Adolphe Monod is best known for his book "Monod's Farewell" which was is being published by Solid Ground Christian Books under the title LIVING IN THE HOPE OF GLORY. Monod was a gifted preacher in the Reformed Church in France. This volume is the substance of two sermons preached to the congregation in Paris in February 1848.

The Translator has written, "In 2003, Solid Ground Christian Books reprinted an 1852 British translation of this monograph, which has been received with some enthusiasm. Now, as part of a series of Monod's works, a new translation is being offered. The goal has been to produce an English edition that is both more readable and more accurate than the earlier one. As in the other volumes in the Monod Classics collection, headings have been introduced to bring out the underlying structure and progression of the text.

A new feature of this edition is a section showing how Adolphe Monod's teaching was exemplified in the lives of his mother Louise, his sister Adele, his wife Hannah and his daughter Sarah. This section is made up mainly of quotations from family correspondence and diaries."

"You will read and read...and read, through tears and laughter, while wondering how any man could be so astute, so tender, so frank, and so inspiring in speaking to his Christian sisters-whatever their position in life- of the glorious, fearful, humbling and immensely influential calling of the Christian woman. In these pages, written long ago, you will nonetheless find your mother, your sisters, your friends, and mostly yourself, as you hear the passionate voice of a godly pastor and tender brother calling you to repent, to take heart, to reconsider, to resist, and to persevere in the life of humility and love to which you are called in Christ." - Rebecca Clowney Jones

"In this treasure of a book Monod makes crystal clear that the godly woman's overarching mission is to glorify God. Under that ultimate mission Monod clarifies how the godly woman is to do that specifically. He calls it her "distincitive mission." He says, "Do not count on the world to clarify this mission for you. It has never known it, and cannot understand it..." He calls on the reader to "rely on the Word of God." Skillfully unpacking the Word of God, Monod strikingly and specifically communicates the "distincitive mission" of the godly woman and grounds all of His thoughts on the Word of God. This book will equip you for your ultimate mission to glorify God and clarify your distinctive mission as a faithful woman." - Lori Rhodes, wife of Ray Rhodes of 'Nourished in the Word Ministries', and mother of five daughters

"Adolphe Monod was one of the brightest lights in the French Awakening of the 19th century. On the surface this text shows him to be a child of his times. But underneath, it is a passionate defense of the biblical view which sees men and women as ontologically equal yet economically different. That is, in their being as God's creatures, they are equally image-bearers. In their functions and responsibilities they are complementary. In Constance Walker's translation the text is as alive in English as it is in the original French. This text is required reading for the present conversation." - Bill Edgar, Westminister Theological Seminary

Adolphe Monod, Translated and Edited by Constance K. Walker

THE NEXT 2 PEOPLE WHO ORDER OUR MONOD SIX-PACK RECEIVE A FREE COPY OF THE BIOGRAPHY ENTITLED, 'ADOLPHE MONOD: The Voice of the Awakening' by Constance Walker (our Monod translator)

"If Charles Spurgeon was the prince of preachers in Victorian England, Adolphe Monod was the noblest preacher of the French revivals. With unequalled passion and clarity he brings the unassuming listener not merely to the foot of the cross, but to Jesus himself, as he is clothed in the gospel. Even if you are expecting to be moved by these messages you will be surprised and deeply comforted by their simple and compelling power." - William Edgar, Professor, Westminster Theological Seminary, Philadelphia, PA

"English-speaking Evangelicals are, as a general rule, quite ignorant of the spiritual riches found in other Evangelical cultures. That of the French Calvinist tradition, coming down from Calvin and men like Pierre Viret, is a good case in point. The most vibrant representative of this tradition in the nineteenth century has to be Adolphe Monod. His sermons are food for the soul, but he is hardly known by contemporary North American Evangelicals. May this excellent sampling of his preaching, marked by rich piety and doctrinal clarity, help make his labours for the Lord Christ far better known." - Michael Haykin, Professor, The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary, Louisville, KY

This book is divided into three parts. Part one is largely relational. It speaks of finding our center, purpose and contentment in our relationship with a holy and loving God; it helps us see the fulfillment of that relationship as grounded in eternity, and then points to the joy of helping others to share in our fulfillment.

Part two of the book is more theological (but not at all in a dry, academic sense). These sermons shine fresh light on the nature of the God whom we love and serve: his love displayed on the cross, his power over death, his holiness, and his faithfulness, even in his threats.

Finally part three is more practical. It encourages us to seek and embrace God's plan for our lives, and to appreciate the joy inherent in the Christian life, even in its more challenging aspects, so that others will want to embrace it as well.

HOW NOT TO PREACH
A French Reformed Classic from the 19th Century
Napoleon Roussel

"HOW NOT TO PREACH? What a strange title! Why employ a negative form? Would it not be more to the purpose to enquire what should be done than what avoided?"

The author replies to this supposed objection with these witty words: "To this query I reply by another: how happens it, Reader, that your eye is now on this page? Is it not because your curiosity has been roused? Would you have opened the book had it been called: ADVICE TO PREACHERS? Probably not."

I have published numerous books on preaching, each one excellent in its own right, but I can assure you that none of them are like this one. Roussel uses wit and wisdom to speak to the hearts of all who preach as well as those who listen. In the only case I have seen Roussel dedicates the book to HIMSELF. Why? He says that it seemed fitting as most of the errors he exposes in the book were learned by observing himself.

After a helpful Introduction Roussel sets forth Seven Men (with fictitous names) who demonstrate How Not to Preach. His opening chapter begins as follows: "THE GREAT AMBITION OF EUSEBIUS IS TO PASS FOR A GOOD PREACHER; THEREFORE SUCH, HE WILL NEVER BE."

Each of the seven negative-models address a different error that needs to be avoided if one is to see true Spirit-wrought conviction and conversion in one's ministry. It is impossible to read these with an open mind and heart and not see oneself here and there throughout the portraits.

The closing chapter, and by far the longest, is entitled JESUS CHRIST: The Preacher's Exemplar. It is here that Roussel strikes the posirtive note which is intended to be heard by all who care about the truth and desire to reach others with that truth. Once again the author approaches his subject from a slightly different angle than one might expect. He looks at three subjects: (1) The Preacher; (2) The Audience and (3) The Subjects Treated. Once again the author hits the nail upon the head, and in a way that will stir the very soul.

ENDORSEMENT-

"I am thankful that Solid Ground Christian Books has republished this very helpful and well written little volume by the French reformed pastor Napoleon Roussel. Prior to reading it, I had heard of neither the book nor its author. However, upon reading only a few pages I quickly came to appreciate its immense value in helping ministers to learn how to preach in a manner that honors the Lord and does good to His people. Filled with much challenge, conviction, and best of all Christ, this work is a rare gem indeed." - Pastor Rob Ventura, Grace Community Baptist Church, North Providence, Rhode Island, co-author of 'A Portrait of Paul' and 'Spiritual Warfare', general editor of Covenant Theology and 'Going Beyond the Five Points', and contributor to the Reformation Heritage KJV Study Bible

NAPOLEON ROUSSEL (1805-1878) was a close friend of the justly famous Adolphe Monod and a man who labored dilgently for decades to proclaim the doctrines of grace in spite of severe persecution. Roussel fought much with the pen. He wrote many treatises in which he criticizes the blind attachment to tradition, the nascent atheism, disbelief in general. Today, when indifference in religious matters seems to have finally triumphed, one might think that reading his writings no longer offers an archaeological interest. It is not so, because if attitudes change, the human substance remains unchanged: the same objections, the same tricks of the heart to escape the gaze of God, constantly coming back; and their divine Word still opposed its very sweet and powerful answers.

THY WORD IS STILL TRUTH: Essential Writings on the Doctrine of Scripture from the Reformation to Today
Edited by Peter A. Lillback and Richard B. Gaffin

OUT-OF-PRINT

This new collection of Reformed thinkers' writings from the Reformation to today brings together key documents on the inerrancy of Scripture in one readable volume.

One of the hallmarks of Westminster Theological Seminary since its beginning in 1929 has been a high view of Scripture that reflects the historic Reformed theological and confessional tradition. Thy Word Is Still Truth confirms that Westminster still holds this high view.

The book's title builds on the important influence of E. J. Young's classic book on inerrancy, 'Thy Word is Truth.' This current anthology unapologetically borrows that title, emphasizing an abiding commitment to the entire truthfulness of the Holy Scriptures as well as a deep indebtedness to Reformed thinkers from the past to the present.

In addition to including all the major confessions and catechisms, 'Thy Word Is Still Truth' includes seminal articles on the doctrine of Scripture from the following authors:

Oswald T. Allis, William Ames, Herman Bavinck, Louis Berkhof, Henry Bullinger, John Calvin, Edmund P. Clowney, William Cunningham, Raymond B. Dillard, Jonathan Edwards, Sinclair B. Ferguson, John M. Frame, Richard B. Gaffin Jr., Louis Gaussen, Ernst Wilhelm Hengstenberg, Archibald Alexander Hodge, Charles Hodge, John Knox, Peter A. Lillback, Martin Luther, J. Gresham Machen, Adolphe Monod, John Murray, John Owen, Vern S. Poythress, MoisTs Silva, Charles H. Spurgeon, Ned B. Stonehouse, Francis Turretin, Zacharias Ursinus, Cornelius Van Til, Geerhardus Vos, Bruce K. Waltke, Benjamin Breckinridge Warfield, Robert Dick Wilson, John Witherspoon, Edward J. Young, and Ulrich Zwingli
