PICTURES FROM PILGRIM'S PROGRESS
C.H. Spurgeon

JOHN BUNYAN [1628-1888] was C. H. Spurgeon's favorite author and his legendary work, THE PILGRIM'S PROGRESS, is the most popular book ever written apart from Holy Scripture. Spurgeon loved reading and re-reading this work, claiming to have read it over 100 times! many times with his wife reading it to him in afternoon relaxation and meditation. He often quoted Bunyan in his sermons declaring, "Though his writings are charmingly full of poetry, yet he cannot give us his Pilgrim's Progress, that sweetest of all prose poems, without continually making us feel and say, 'Why, this man is a living Bible!' Prick him anywhere; his blood is Bibline, the very essence of the Bible flows from him. He cannot speak without quoting a text, for his very soul is FULL of the Word of God."

Spurgeon first became enthralled with this classic when but a small child, in the attic of his grandfather's manse. The old wood-cut illustrations were especially interesting to the young lad, and later his sermons were quite saturated with references to the characters and events in the story. Thomas Spurgeon, one of his twin sons, wrote the preface to these articles which were first published in The Sword and the Trowel Magazine after C. H. Spurgeon's death.

1689 BAPTIST CONFESSION OF FAITH: A Modern Exposition, 5th Edition Revised and Corrected
Sam Waldron, Author of HOW THEN SHOULD WE WORSHIP? The Regulative Principle and Required Parts of the Church's Corporate Worship

BACK IN STOCK ONCE AGAIN IN JANUARY 2023.

A Modern Exposition of the 1689 Baptist Confession of Faith by Sam Waldron This 5th Edition is the definitive version, and is presented in hardback.

Modern Christianity is awash in a flood of doctrinal relativity. Satan and his forces love the imprecision and ambiguity which are rampant in our day. As C. H. Spurgeon observed, 'The archenemy of truth has invited us to level our walls and take away our fenced cities.'

This exposition was originally published in 1989 to mark the 300th anniversary of the publication of the Second London Confession, which also became known as the 1689 Baptist Confession of Faith. Today, Reformed Baptists world-wide hold this Confession in high esteem and many churches continue to regard it as their official statement of faith.

In this extensive exposition, the author Sam Waldron shows that the 1689 Confession is a masterly statement of the historic Christian faith. He writes in a direct and lucid style that will help ministers, students and laymen alike to a clear understanding of this Confession and to its relevance and application to our modern age.

BONUS SECTION # 1- Included in this publication is a very helpful introduction on 'The Legitimacy and Use of Confessions' by the late Dr. Robert Paul Martin, who is now in glory but was formerly Pastor of Emmanuel Reformed Baptist Church in Seattle, Washington.

BONUS SECTION # 2- At the back of the book there are 25 pages of helpful Study Questions (more than 300 in all) that will help to review all the contents of this invaluable book, and serve useful for teaching within the church and the family.

'This is one of my favorite confessional commentaries. It does vary (sometimes more, sometimes less) from studies on the Westminster Confession because of its baptistic approach, but Waldron is an excellent writer, and he has the advantage of being our contemporary. His examples and discussions of issues on which the WCF and LBCF are the same (Creation, Justification, Election, Sabbath, etc.) are excellent. This book is very well organized and clear.' Fred Greco, Senior Pastor, Christ Church PCA, Katy, Texas

Dr. Sam Waldron is the Dean of Covenant Baptist Theological Seminary and Professor of Systematic Theology (cbtseminary.org). Dr. Waldron received a B.A. from Cornerstone University, completed studies equivalent to an M. Div. at Trinity Ministerial Academy, obtained a Th.M. from Grand Rapids Theological Seminary, and attained a Ph.D. from Southern Baptist Theological Seminary. From 1977 to 2001 he was one of the pastors of the Reformed Baptist Church of Grand Rapids, MI. He is now one of the pastors of Grace Reformed Baptist Church in Owensboro, KY.

A HEART FOR MISSIONS: The Classic Memoir of Samuel Pearce
Andrew Fuller

"The beloved friend of Andrew Fuller and William Carey, Samuel Pearce (1766-1799), personified the living relation between doctrinal purity and passion for God's glory in evangelism. Pearce participated with boundless energy and sacrifice in the Missionary society work and served as editor of the Periodical Accounts. Not only did he promote the mission cause in England with all his might, he urged William Rogers of the Philadelphia Association to begin a Baptist foreign mission society in America that would involve the energies of the entire denomination. Cathcart's Encyclopedia calls him 'one of the warmest advocates of foreign missions that dwelt on earth since the Son of Mary came from his heavenly home on a foreign mission to this lost world.' He has been compared to Robert Murray McCheyne and David Brainerd for combination of fervent piety and zeal." -Tom Nettles

"William Ward, who had been profoundly influenced by Pearce's zeal and spirituality, well summed up his character when he wrote not long before the latter's death: 'Oh, how does personal religion shine in Pearce! What a soul! What ardour for the glory of God! 'you see in him a mind wholly given up to God; a sacred lustre shines in his conversation: always tranquil, always cheerful' I have seen more of God in him than in any other person I ever met.'

At the heart of Pearce's spirituality, both lived and taught, was the theological conviction that 'real religion consists in supreme love to God and disinterested [i.e. impartial] love to man'. Measured by this standard, there seems little doubt about the reality of Pearce's Christian faith and spirituality. There is also little question of the challenge it poses to Christians today." - Michael Haykin

"Samuel Pearce was one of the brightest lights among eighteenth century English Baptists. In his brief thirty-threes years on earth he made a significant impact for the advancement of the Gospel of Jesus Christ around the world. Though his own desires to go as a missionary were overruled by God's providence, his interest in that cause and jealousy for His Savior's glory left a lasting impression on those who did go and those on who stayed behind in England to 'hold the ropes.' Andrew Fuller was the foremost ropeholder. His memoir of his friend, Pearce, was a labor of love and remains a useful resource for Christians today. Fuller weaves together recollections and letters from his friend and adds to them his own reflections to demonstrate how God's power and grace can radiate in a life that is intentionally yielded to Jesus Christ." - Tom Ascol

THE BACKSLIDER: His Nature, Symptoms and Recovery
Andrew Fuller (1754-1815) with a Biographical Sketch by Dr. Michael Haykin

THIS IS THE BOOK THAT NEEDS TO BE READ BY THOSE WHO ARE RESTING ON A "DECISION" THEY CLAIM THEY MADE ABOUT CHRIST, BUT HAVE FAILED TO FOLLOW THAT "DECISION" WITH A LIFE THAT REFLECTS THAT PROFESSION.

TABLE OF CONTENTS

Biographical Sketch of Fuller by Dr. Michael Haykin

Original Introduction by John Angell James

Preface by Andrew Fuller

1. On the General Nature of Backsliding

2. The Symptoms of a Backsliding Spirit

3. The Injurious and Dangerous Effects of Sin Lying upon the Conscience Unlamented

4. On the Means of Recovery

"Andrew Fuller was, in my opinion, one of the greatest theologians, which modern times, or any times have produced, and his writings are an almost inexhaustible mine of doctrinal, practical, and experimental truth, which every Christian and especially every minister, would do well to explore. No man better understood the bible, or the human heart both in its un-renewed and its regenerate state. Among all his various practical treatises, there are few, if any, of greater value than that on BACKSLIDING. Like a most skillful physician, he explains, with singular ability, the nature of the disease, lays down the symptoms of it, and prescribes the method of recovery." - John Angell James

"Andrew Fuller (1754-1815) was an outstanding figure with qualities that make him one of the most attractive figures in Baptist history. Many in his day could echo the words of his very close friend William Carey , 'I loved him.' The Backslider: or an Inquiry into the Nature, Symptoms, and Effects of Religious Declension, with the Means of Recovery was originally published in 1801. Fuller's work, though, has stood the test of time and well merits the description by John Ryland as 'an invaluable piece of practical divinity.'" - Michael Haykin

JESUS OF NAZARETH
His Character, Teachings and Supernatural Works
John A. Broadus

"Broadus shows ample awareness on many fronts - a necessary element of effective apologetics. He paints an admirable picture of the friend of sinners and sinless Son of God. I especially appreciated the section on the centrality of the resurrection."

Richard C. Barcellos, Pastor

Managing Editor of Reformed Baptist Theological Review

"These lectures were delivered in March 1890, in the Hall recently erected and given to Johns Hopkins University, for the use of the Young Men's Christian Association of that institution; and the President of the YMCA specially requested their publication. They were not designed as class-room lectures, since many not connected with the University were invited to attend.

"The subject treated seems to possess an ever-deepening interest at the present time. The personal character of Jesus is now widely perceived to be an important guarantee of his teachings and works. This character is presented by the first lecture in a way that to some may appear lacking in devout warmth; but the object was to gain the concurrence of every person who will calmly survey the historical facts, and thus to lay a foundation for what would follow. It is hoped that the second lecture will tend to rectify certain erroneous but quite prevalent views of the Savior's teaching; and that the third lecture may be found to have some argumentative force in regarde to his mission and claims.

"The little volume is the fruit of life-time studies, and has been prepared with the author's best exertions, and a great desire to promote 'the knowledge of Jesus, the most excellent of the sciences." - from the Author's Preface

JOHN ALBERT BROADUS (1827-1895) was to become one of the most influential Baptist leaders in the history of the nation. This volume is a wonderful introduction to the heart of this man who loved his Savior and Lord with a passion that was contagious.

A SCRIPTURAL EXPOSITION OF THE BAPTIST CATECHISM
Benjamin Beddome with Introduction by Dr. James Renihan and Biographical Sketch by Dr. Michael Haykin

ORDER WITH OUR BONDED-LEATHER CONFESSION & CATECHISM AND SAVE EVEN MORE!

"The recent reprint of The Baptist Catechism has given families and study classes a helpful tool for memorizing the great doctrines of the Christian faith. Now, a hidden jewel, Benjamin Beddome's 'A Scriptural Exposition of the Baptist Catechism,' takes its place alongside the Catechism to give much needed assistance to the same families and classes. Beddome shows how the doctrines contained in the Catechism are founded upon Scripture, and explains them for all to understand. This is indeed a wonderful instrument to make skilled craftsmen from apprentices!" - Dr. James M. Renihan

"During the early years of his ministry Benjamin Beddome (1717-1795) used Benjamin Keach's 'The Baptist Catechism' extensively, but clearly felt that the questions and answers of this catechism needed to be supplemented by further material. So he composed what was printed in 1752 as 'A Scriptural Exposition of the Baptist Catechism by Way of Question and Answer,' which basically reproduced the wording and substance of the catechism drawn up by Keach, but added various sub-questions and answers to each of the main questions.

The Scriptural Exposition proved to be quite popular. There were two editions during Beddome's lifetime, the second of which was widely used at the Bristol Baptist Academy, which was the sole British Baptist seminary for much of the eighteenth century. In the nineteenth century it was reprinted once in the British Isles and twice in the United States, the last printing being in 1849." - Dr. Michael Haykin

Benjamin Beddome was born January 23, 1717, at Henley-in-Arden, Warwickshire, England. He was the son of Baptist minister John Beddome. He was apprenticed to a surgeon in Bristol, but moved to London in 1839 and joined the Baptist church in Prescott Street. At the call of his church, he devoted himself to the work of Christian ministry, and in 1740 began to preach at Bourton-on-the-Water, Gloucestershire. For many years he was one of the most respected Baptist ministers in western England. He was also a man of some literary culture. In 1752, he wrote "Exposition of the Baptist Catechism." In 1770, Beddome received a MA degree from Providence College, Rhode Island.

It was Beddome's practice to write a hymn weekly for use after his Sunday morning sermon. Though not originally intended for publication, he allowed 13 of these to appear in the Bristol Baptist Collection of Ash & Evans (1769), and 36 in Rippon's Selections (1787). In 1817, a posthumous collection of his hymns was published, containing 830 pieces. Robert Hall wrote of Beddome's hymns:

"The man of taste will be gratified with the beauty and original turns of thought which many of them exhibit, while the experimental Christian will often perceive the most secret movements of his soul strikingly delineated, and sentiments portrayed which will find their echo in every heart."

He died September 23, 1795, at Bourton-on-the-Water, Gloucestershire, England.

"Beddome's exposition is particularlly helpful for doctrine classes in churches and can give substantial help to any leader that would want to convene such a study." - Dr. Tom Nettles

"An amazingly insightful volume, written in highly accessible and readable style. Beddome gives helpful, clear biblical exposition to the Baptist Catechism by a series of succinct questions and answers exploring each catechism question's affirmations, denials, and implications concisely and with biblical grounding. He wrote for people in his congregation, not scholars, and its intended audience is obvious in his clear, simple handling of the various headings in the Catechism. Behold here the timelessness of the Puritan approach to Scripture!

Solid Ground did a great job putting together the physical volume. The printing is crisp, dark, and clear; the font is sized to be quite legible; and the paperback itself feels well-made and sturdy.

Beddome's 'A Scriptural Exposition of the Baptist Catechism' is indeed an important piece of Baptist history; but more than that, it’s an altogether unique book which will help you understand Scripture and know God better. Warmly recommended." - customer R.T. Marsh

AN INTRODUCTION TO THE BAPTISTS
Erroll Hulse

"If you are asked, 'Can you point me to a book that will explain in simple, clear, brief and accurate terms some of the leading ideas, personalities, and distinctive issues in Baptist history?' you can answer, 'An Introduction to the Baptists' by Erroll Hulse. The author has lived several decades as an engaged, dedicated, and zealous propagator of Baptist ideas and has read multitudes of sources, primary and secondary, about Baptist personalities, theology, and institutions. He is well qualified to condense this history to the essentials. Audubon Press is to be thanked for making this volume available to a wide reading public!" - Dr. Tom Nettles, Professor of Historical Theology, The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary

"One of the first histories of the Baptists that I read was this work by Erroll Hulse. In a small compass, Pastor Hulse covers a significant amount of territory and accurately shows the various streams that make up the English-speaking Baptist world. This small book gave me a solid overview that further in-depth research has confirmed and substantiated. While new questions are being asked and new avenues of interpretation being explored, which is the nature of historical research and is to be welcomed, it is great to see this classic overview back in print. It is a tried and true summary of what is now four hundred years of Baptist life and thought." - Dr. Michael Haykin, Professor of Church History and Biblical Spirituality; Director, The Andrew Fuller Center for Baptist Studies, The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary

WHICH CHURCH SHOULD YOU JOIN? by Earl Blackburn

Once the question of joining a church is settled, the next logical question is which or what type of church should you join? This booklet is perfect to give to those who genuinely want to find the RIGHT Church for them and their family. As Pastor Blackburn points out, "Not all churches are alike." He sets forth to lay out Seven Qualities you should look for in a church. (BACK IN PRINT)

THE MYTH OF FREE WILL by Walter Chantry

Chantry succinctly and clearly demonstrates from Scripture the myth of 'circumstantial' freedom, 'ethical' freedom, and 'spiritual' freedom. He concludes with these strong words, "The will is in the chains of an evil human nature. You who extol the free will as a great force are clinging to a root of pride. Man, as fallen in sin, is utterly helpless and hopeless. The will of man offers no hope. It was the will choosing the forbidden fruit that brought us into this misery. The powerful grace of God alone offers deliverance."

TO GOD BE THE GLORY: The Biblical Doctrine of Particular Redemption by Wayne Mack

BACK IN PRINT AFTER SEVERAL YEARS. As in all writings by Dr. Mack, this booklet addresses the biblical doctrine of the atonement on Christ in a practical way. Rooted in Scripture he brings us back again and again to face the implications of the finished work of Christ in our personal life and our evangelism.

THE LORD'S DAY - Philip Schaaf. Written by the celebrated church historian and is intended to teach that Sunday is the Christian Sabbath The writer's purpose is to show this observance is not only based on Scripture, but on apostolic and historical practice.

PAEDOISM OR CREDOISM - Richard Barcellos. A defense of baptism of believer's by immersion from a covenantal position.

THE MEANS OF GRACE by Earl Blackburn is an outstanding introduction to this vital subject, as a seasoned pastor explains the meaning of the term, and then explains both the Private Means of Grace and the Public Means of Grace. This is aptly sub-titled HOW YOU CAN GROW AS A CHRISTIAN.

BAPTISM AND COVENANT THEOLOGY by Walt Chantry is a very helpful introduction to Covenant Theology and its relationship to baptism. Chantry does a masterful job of exposing the flawed reasoning of those who practice infant baptism. Well done.

CHURCH ATTENDANCE: IS IT IMPORTANT by Earl Blackburn

A very handy little booklet from a veteran pastor on the spiritual importance of faithful attendance at a biblically sound church. Blackburn lists numerous blessings that flow from sitting under the ministry of the Word each week.

***MISSIONARIES SHOULD BE 'IMMERSED' IN CHURCH by Walter Chantry. This little pamphlet addresses a problem with much modern missions: a failure to honor the God-ordained sending agency, the Church of Jesus Christ. (***INCLUDED FREE WITH EVERY AND ANY ORDER)

THE FATAL FLAW of the Theology Behind Infant Baptism (Revised & Expanded Edition)
Jeff Johnson

OUT OF PRINT AGAIN AT THIS TIME

The Fatal Flaw exposes the inconsistencies of the theology behind infant baptism. Rather than rehashing the familiar arguments against infant baptism, this work seeks to undercut its very foundation. What is the theological system which under girds infant baptism and where does this system come unraveled? This work answers these questions by explaining the distinction in the nature of the old and new covenants and their often misunderstood relationship with one another. This critical discussion of the continuity and discontinuity of the covenants is thoroughly explored in this book. To understand the biblical connection between the covenants, it is vital to first understand the dual nature of the Abrahamic Covenant. What is the relationship between Abraham and Moses, Abraham and Christ, and Moses and Christ? The debate of continuity and discontinuity between the old and new covenants cannot be properly solved until the intended nature of the Abrahamic Covenant is fully comprehended.

Endorsements -

Richard P. Belcher, Sr., Author of 'A Journey in Grace '-- "This is an excellent and outstanding work, which deals with the subject from the ground up; one of the best, if not the best, I have ever seen! Jeffrey deals with all the aspects of the subject and in the logical order of their development in the subject area. He presents his position clearly with solid and sound exegesis and clear discussion and argumentation. Thus, he makes a definite and strong contribution to the subject matter of the day concerning the ongoing debate between continuity and discontinuity of the Divine covenants."

Thomas J. Gentry, Pastor of Covenant Presbyterian Church and President of Veritas Theological Seminary-- "If I were a Baptist, this argument would be the one I would want to share with my Presbyterian brethren or anyone considering leaving the Baptist camp to become one. It truly is a must read and should be in the library of every serious student of covenant theology."

Tom Nettles, The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary-- "Jeffrey Johnson has produced a thorough, vigorous, and impressive interaction with covenant theology as it is used in support of infant baptism. He has given detailed analysis of each part of the system, approved what was biblically warranted, challenged what is indefensibly contrived and offered compelling alternatives to each part of the system that he has challenged. He has not left it at that point but has offered an alternate interpretation of the relationship between the covenants."

COVENANT THEOLOGY: A Reformed and Baptistic Perspective on God's Covenants
Greg Nichols

NEW PAPERBACK EDITION NOW AVAILABLE!

More than 30 years in the making, from Greg Nichols' class notes comes a new printing of a volume that has already helped those who are Reformed and Baptistic understand the vital subject of GOD'S COVENANTS from the perspective of those persuaded of Disciple's Baptism. A MUST READ!

This volume is the first of the Scriptural and Systematic Studies Series by Greg Nichols.

"Baptists who embrace their historic Calvinistic and Covenantal roots have long since needed a robust and comprehensive treatment of Covenant Theology that includes the nuanced interpretations of the biblical covenants that a baptistic hermeneutic requires. This treatment by Greg Nichols does just that and more. As a devotee of the Westminster tradition (including its chapter, 'On God's Covenant with Man'), I differ here and there; sometimes significantly so. But there is so much to applaud in this volume and Baptists will do well to read this volume carefully and with much gratitude. A splendid achievement. I, for one, will insist that my Presbyterian students read it." - Derek W. H. Thomas, Distinguished Visiting Professor of Systematic and Historical Theology, RTS, Minister of Preaching and Teaching, First Presbyterian Church, Columbia, SC, Editorial Director, Alliance of Confessing Evangelicals

"There has been an urgent need for Reformed Baptist to produce a work on the covenants. I am so thankful that Greg Nichols has engaged this very weighty work. It is a very timely addition on a vitally important topic and adds much to a growing Reformed Baptist literary body." - James R. White, Alpha and Omega Ministry, author of numerous books, including 'Pulpit Crimes', published by Solid Ground

"Greg Nichols has done a wonderful job of articulating a genuinely reformed and baptistic model of covenant theology. The fruit of decades of study and teaching on his subject, this volume should be read by all who want to understand the proper framework of divine revelation. My counsel to all ministerial students is 'Tolle lege' (take up and read)." - Dr. Robert P. Martin, Emmanuel Reformed Baptist Church, Seattle, WA, Author of "Guide to the Puritans"

"The Old Testament was inspired by the Spirit of God. It is certainly a record of what is true, of creation, fall, and the promise of the Messiah. There is the whole machinery of redemptive anticipation that God set up with his old covenant people. What of family life? What of the children of believers? Their sons are no longer to be circumcised. What is the status of the sons and daughters of believers under the new covenant? Such questions are fascinating and Baptists are asking them and seeking answers. Hence the appearance of this book which comes out of many years of thought and preparation by Greg Nichols and has been eagerly anticipated by the gospel church. May it do much good. May we all look again at the Scriptures and find a new help in understanding them in this satisfying and provocative volume." - Geoff Thomas, Pastor of Alfred Place Baptist Church in Aberystwyth, Wales

"I remember the very first class that I took from Pastor Nichols which was on the Doctrine of the Covenants and thinking to myself, 'This material has utterly transformed the way that I look at the Bible.' Until that point, I had never been taught covenant theology and so the effect of this biblical teaching on my life was nothing short of profound! Four thoughts come to mind as I think about this new book: thoroughly scriptural, historically confessional, warmly pastoral and experientially practical. My prayer is that the publication of this work will be that which our great God uses to edify His church and to get much glory to His own holy Name." - Pastor Rob Ventura, Grace Community Baptist Church, North Providence, RI, Co-Author of "Portrait of Paul"

"As a former student of Greg's in the Trinity Ministerial Academy, I cannot say enough good about his lectures in systematic theology. In addition to playing a primary role in shaping my ministry, they have had a significant impact upon me personally. His lectures on Doctrine of the Covenants are among my favorites. I am not aware of anything in print that treats this topic as clearly and comprehensively, and from a distinctly Baptist perspective. Greg's emphasis throughout is biblical, pastoral, and practical, with a contemporary flavor." - Pastor Jim Domm, Englewood Baptist Church, Englewood NJ

"Pastor Greg Nichols' lectures on the Biblical Covenants is a breath of fresh air among a smog of other materials available on the same subject. Presented in a plain and readily understandable way, it has revolutionized my thinking and approach to understanding God's dealing with mankind. Next to a grasp of Biblical Calvinism, nothing has opened up my understanding more to the Word of God than this. It has enabled me to see the true unity that does exist in both the Old and New Testaments while at the same time enabling me to understand the differences. These lectures offer a Biblical alternative to the serious Bible student without feeling they must be either Pedo-Baptist or Dispensational in their approach to the scriptures. With nothing like them in print available, it would be a great asset to the Church of Jesus Christ to have these available in printed form." - Pastor Martin Hoffman, Providence Baptist Church, Lecanto, FL.

"Greg Nichols' approach to theology is rooted in his commitment to the Word of God. He has always desired to allow the bible to speak and to sit under its revelation. Over the years I have had both the joy and the privilege to sit through his teaching on various aspects of Systematic Theology and benefited greatly from it. I can heartily recommend his writings to you, it will take you back to your bible, deepen your understanding of God's Holy Word and draw your closer to the Lord." - Pastor Robert Briggs, Immanuel Baptist Church, Sacramento, CA

"During the early 1980's when I was training for the Christian ministry, it was my privilege to sit under the teaching of Pastor Greg Nichols for a significant portion of my class-work. His instruction exerted a formative influence in opening up the entire Bible to me. His material on the covenants for example, was so insightful in unveiling the framework of redemption. Reformed Baptists would benefit by having Pastor Nichols' material in print. It would help our churches to better understand our faith and better pass it on to the next generation." - Pastor Stu Johnston, Grace Reformed Baptist Church of Mebane, NC

"One of the benefits of being under the theological teachings of Greg Nichols is being able to enthusiastically recommend his lectures. His lessons enrich the soul of the Christian, extract beautiful principals from Biblical texts that fix themselves in the heart and make them unforgettable. Based on my understanding of Christ and His Word, and my Christian experience I recommend availing yourself of the theological teachings of Greg Nichols." - Pastor Oscar Arocha, Pastor, Bautista de la Gracia, Santiago, Dominican Republic

THE GLORY OF A TRUE CHURCH: Baptist Reprints Series
Benjamin Keach

This book was last printed in the early 1880's. Benjamin Keach was one of the best and most well-known baptist, puritan theologians of the 1600s. He was instrumental in introducing hymns into the church's worship, and also was one of the framers of the 1689 London Baptist Confession. He also had a profound love for the church. He began preaching at 18, and pastoring at 28 and his ministry was tremendously blessed by God with growth in truth and defense against error. He was despised by the authorities of the Church of England and often persecuted for his faith. His church had to be added onto many times; and a little over 100 years after his death a preacher by the name of Charles Spurgeon took up the office of pastor there in his church.

This little book was written to be easily and readily available to all, even the poor. Many congregationalists had written large books on the subject, but Keach was the first of the Baptists to put forth a book on church discipline; and he made it short in hopes that it would spark a Baptist discussion that would show the order and beauty of the Baptists in the midst of the Church of England's persecution on them. Though it is short, it is packed with practical examples on church discipline, and a contagious love for the church. You will find it very easy to read, and the book is sure to grow you in your love for Christ and his church, and to bring order to the church.

"Without question, Benjamin Keach was the greatest theologian among Baptists of the second-generation. He was also a faithful pastor who cared deeply for the church, and longed to see it ordered according to God's revealed will. In this little book, 'The Glory of a True Church', Keach brilliantly, clearly, and succinctly explains the nature of church polity as well as regular and orderly church discipline. I highly recommend it to scholars, pastors, and laymen alike!" - Tom Hicks, PhD Pastor of Morningview Baptist Church

BAPTISTS: THOROUGH REFORMERS
John Quincy Adams

What does it mean to be a Baptist? Though ideas abound, we must go to the one man for a sure answer, John Quincy Adams. For with unashamed boldness and clarity Adams articulates the fundamental distinctives of the Baptist Faith. These fundamentals include the important of sola Scriptura, believer's baptism, the separation of the church and state, equality of the saints, and liberty of conscious. Even C. H. Spurgeon, calling it 'the best Manual of Baptist principles he had met,' included the text in his Pastor's College curriculum. First published in 1858 and reprinted multiple times since, this work has become a classic tome upon Baptist principles. And one hundred and fifty years later, we too, affirming the testimony of Spurgeon and countless others, are happy to release the updated edition of BAPTISTS: THOROUGH REFORMERS.

"We have read this little book with more than ordinary gratification. It treats an important subject in a Scriptural and logical manner. There is no attempt to conceal or modify our denominational principles; they are stated kindly and persuasively, yet with manliness and earnestness worthy of all praise." - Spencer Cone

THE TRAVELS OF TRUE GODLINESS from the beginning of the world to this present day : in an apt and pleasant allegory
Benjamin Keach

Benjamin Keach (1640-1704): important Particular Baptist preacher, author, and ardent defender of Baptist principles, even against Richard Baxter. Often in prison and frequently in danger for preaching the Gospel, he was the first to introduce singing hymns in the worship of English congregations.

"After defining godliness and showing its worthy pedigree and antiquity, 'the excellent Benjamin Keach' (as he was fondly called), allegorically personifies 'Godliness,' much as Bunyan did 'Christian.' He introduces us to more than two dozen enemies of godliness, then details Godliness's encounters with several of them, including apostasy, hypocrisy, legalism, antinomianism, worldliness, and Satan. We meet in graphic detail the temptations of youth and old age, of riches and poverty, as well as the joys of contentment, thoughtfulness, kindness, and love. This is a fascinating read by the most important Baptist thinker of his day, designed to stir us up to a greater pursuit of godliness." - Dr. Joel R. Beeke, Puritan Reformed Theological Seminary, Grand Rapids, Michigan

"While The Pilgrim's Progress is the most famous of the Christian journey allegories of the seventeenth century, it is not the only one. Though nearly forgotten today, Benjamin Keach's 'The Travels of True Godliness' was in the eighteenth century nearly as popular as Bunyan's great work. It is a great blessing to see it back in print. We hope that many will read, enjoy and benefit from it." - Dr. James M. Renihan

"Most modern men don't think deeply. If there is something called 'true godliness,' for a contrast to stand, there must also be a form of religion that is not true and straight, but false. The former is rare in the world; the latter abounds even in the churches. "The Travels of True Godliness" is a road map for and about those on God's narrow way. For others, if the directions of God go unheard and unheeded, 'true godliness' will remain a quaint curiosity on the road to destruction." - Dr. Mike Renihan

"Those who adopt as one of their modes of benevolence, the distribution of awakening tracts, will find this happily suited to their purpose, and adapted to a great variety of characters. To Christians it will prove an excellent closet companion, containing judicious and satisfactory helps to self-examination, and designating the true and false marks of grace with remarkable precision. May the divine blessing attend it." - from the Preface by Howard Malcolm, editor of this revised edition, dated June 1, 1829

THE MARROW OF TRUE JUSTIFICATION: or Justification Without Works
Benjamin Keach

"The Marrow of True Justification" or Justification Without Works contains the substance of two sermons preached on Romans 4:5, wherein the nature of justification is opened as it has been formerly asserted by all sound Protestants; and the present errors against the said doctrine detected.

"Justification by faith alone, that central doctrinal feature of the Reformation, has proven to be a controversial issue down through the years. This is not surprising, since it undermines the perennial human desire to have human merit as the basis for salvation. But this doctrine is eminently biblical. Moreover, it glorifies God and puts human beings in their place in a God-centred universe.

Controversy erupted over this doctrine towards the end of the Puritan era, and it has to be admitted that Richard Baxter, such a good guide to Puritan views on ethical issues, was behind the theological errors to which Benjamin Keach ably responds in this vital work. But why reprint this work from a bygone day and old controversy? For the simple fact that theological error on this issue is not relegated to the past. As significant sectors of Evangelicalism careen towards theological disaster in our day, this issue of how a person is made right with God has again become a matter of debate and acrimonious dispute. And here Keach can help us.

So read this work! Defend with your last breath the biblical doctrine herein recommended! And glorify the God who justifies the wicked!" - Dr. Michael Haykin

"The publication of Benjamin Keach's 'The Marrow of True Justification' is a timely and welcome addition to the growing body of literature from 17th Century Particular Baptist authors. This is especially true for two reasons. On the one hand, it provides us with a helpful insight into their wonderful grasp of the gospel and its nature. They were clear in their understanding of law and grace, forgiveness, the nature of the work of Christ and everything else related to a clear proclamation of the gospel. But on the other hand, it helps us to see that modern errors and deviations from the purity of the gospel are not new. They are simply old heresies dressed in modern terms. Keach's work calls us back to the well-established path of Scripture and Reformed Theology. I pray that this work will be read far and wide and strengthen our resolve to preach Christ and his gospel in purity and simplicity. Thank you, SGCB for this reprint." - Dr. James Renihan

"There has been, and always will be, only one way of salvation for sinners who believe and that is by Christ's righteousness imputed. It is amazing that attacks on imputed righteousness continue even in our 21st century. Here in Keach we have a sterling example of how to defend this vital truth by thorough exposition. What an excellent example for us all today!" - Erroll Hulse

"Just as self-righteousness is not really righteousness, auto-justification is not a work of God's free grace. It is mankind, who "...[B]eing ignorant of Gods Righteousness, went about to establish their own Righteousness..." to justify themselves that they might boast. As for me, I'll take Keach's doctrine, and I'll take the righteousness of another as my only hope of glory." - Dr. Mike Renihan
